When I hit the button "let's disable that crap" I get:

I have UBlock origin and NoScript both on the LibreWolf browser.
As you can see above it shows me how to disable UBO....

It's a an account from the 90's I have always used to open accounts and route junk to. Nothing important comes there unless its a 2FA code from an acct I had to return to..

Not budging. UBO stays. When does this lunacy end?

brent I have been avoiding services that require to disable ad blockers. Such as news sites, hobby sites, etc. I will find the info elsewhere. I have also ditched gmail and have slowly been moving accounts connected with my gmail account to Proton. I have also been cleaning up my iCloud account so that it's primarly used for family communications.

I move on from sites as well, with that same conviction ("will get the info elsewhere". I wish I new what do do with Yahoo...could get rid of it..but I'd have to make a brand new account dedicated to junk and one-time accounts...then that would be circles.

brent My email provider history is Hotmail -> Gmail -> iCloud -> Proton. I simply do not trust Google enough to keep using it. (A similar argument can be made about Apple but I am heavily tied to the Apple ecosystem)

Plus, when I move an account from gmail to Proton I can set up an alias.

Easy solution is to use an email client like Thunderbird, Vivaldi has one built in, etc and you can avoid their website all together. Although its probably not hard to bypass their ad block blocker if you are sufficiently invested.

Reality is unless you are paying money for the service, fighting ads and ad block blockers will always be a thing. People often threaten to boycott services that use ad block blockers but the company will never care about these users, they are losing money on you.

I set up Claws once, successfully. But didn't use it. T-Bird and other mail aggregates always seem middlemen between you and your account, but probably very efficient. I mean are the Trash and Spam and Sent folders of all your accounts all intermingled now? I can see the appeal.

Harvey I use Zoho. Great replacement for Outlook. They have an appimage, web client, and phone apps. Doesn't cost much for just the base mail package. I use it for both my business account and personal.

I think you can do that but its not the default. When you have multiple email addresses added you can set a default account for sending emails and it can be toggled to other addresses by a simple drop down menu when you click "new message". Calendar built in which can sync with your gmail calender or other providers etc etc, I couldn't imagine not using an email client.

A webmail client is just another client. Just like Thunderbird, Claws etc. The only difference is that Thunderbird is a local client, and the web client is on a server. Both are just interfaces to view and manage your email. There's nothing wrong with preferring one or the other.

The only way to not have a "middleman" is to read the text from IMAP directly on the server without any client at all. That's not feasible. Just want to clarify things.

I don't turn off my ad blockers for anyone or any site, everyone deserves the right to surf the web unobstructed without being bombarded with ads. If you will not let me view your site or content without turning it off , fine , I'm gone , I can always find what I am looking for somewhere else and someone else will get my patronage and / or sale. And I certainly would not PAY anyone for the privilege of viewing their site ad free also.

My stance as well. It's a standoff. It's a relic account from 'the day.' My options are plentiful, at the end of the day I will go with the most painless....I think it would take an act of god to get free from Yahoo 🙂...

I have been using email clients for years and don't want to go without.
Mostly Thunderbird (TB), recently Betterbird (BB) which is a fork off TB and seems to work better (TB "lost" = doesn't display some folders anymore, BB shows them all).
You can also import the local folders created in TB into BB which is a nice feature.

On my Android smartphone I installed Aqua Mail Pro, very reliable and customisable.

Some years ago I created a new email account with https://posteo.de/en which keeps my inbox almost completely spam-free - no idea how they do that where other email providers let all incoming crap through. Highly recommended! And very cheap: Only 1 € per month, and worth it!

Why I mention posteo.de? Because they have a fantastic webmail site which you can use instead of an email client such as TB!

zmaint I was fortunate enough to get a personal free account with zoho several years ago. I think they charge for new personal accounts now. I also started using BB a couple of years ago when I started having problems with TB. I rarely get any spam and BB makes it easy to set up a spam filter. The two of them make a great combo.

I've had Zoho for maybe 12 years. It's fantastic. It is "supposed to" fall on a privacy spectrum somewhere between google and proton, right down the middle.
It's my MAIN personal/business account. I'm not going anywhere. It serves me well.

I could not pollute that account with all the 🤮 I have sent to Yahoo.

I have to figger out a way out my yahoo conundrum.

Citfta They do, but it's not much and to me it doesn't really matter because I need the business side of it. The personal email side for me is essentially a free bonus. I liked EM Client back in the day on Windows, but they staunchly refuse to make it available for linux. Evolution had great potential but never worked quite right. I've not really found anything else that lets me use my own domain name and works with Exchange calendars and stuff... and also has a matching phone app.

I use Firefox Relay (does not require using firefox).

For free you can create 5 email masks but you can delete / create new ones at will (obviously losing access to the deleted ones). It forwards the emails from the email mask you create to yours so the other party never knows your real email address. An example address looks like this pocj8z32@mozmail.com and you just use that when registering on a site.

From Mozilla Relay's side you can choose to automatically block promotional emails, block all or forward all.

Since BB makes it easy to have more than one account I have my desktop set up with 2 email accounts for stuff like that. I keep only my zoho account on my laptop which is my main PC for daily use.

brent lol that is what gmail is for. My personal domain is where my work and important personal email go for things I want. You could also make a throwaway email account, like brentsjunkmail@gmail.com and just use that whenever you sign up for the stuff that you know is going to be spam generation. Also in the US, companies that are legit are required to provide an opt out link, I use those judiciously (just make sure they are not phishing links). I get like 3 emails a day. My wife gets like 1200. She signs up for everything, never unsubs. Total dumpster fire.

Harvey @brent, I use DuckDuckGo email protection in a similar way. It allows you to create as many duck.com email addresses as you like, strips trackers and forwards them to a real email address of your choice. Unfortunately, there is no easy way to manage these duck.com addresses, but as they're designed to be throwaway to some extent that is a minor inconvenience to me. Currently, I have all duck.com email forwarded to a Gmail account, but I may change that if I find another provider that fits the bill. Zoho does seem to offer a free account still, but the free version does not support IMAP connection...
