Solus Updates for Week 9, 2025

I guess I wrote too soon when I said there was no drama. Now I can't get Thunderbird to respond to a mouse cliick at all. Other functions seem normal - UI, etc. - but I can't select anything with the mouse. It's working fine everywhere but in Thunderbird.

Anybody else seeing this?

NOTE: This happens only on my Plasma laptop. On my Xfce laptop, Thunderbird works just fine.

Yes I am having issue too. I have had two hard-locks now.
Yesterday after I updated I rebooted. Logged into desktop, made a coffee came back to my desk system was hard-lock. Held power button and re-powered up.
First Boot up today, logged in and got to the desktop then hard-lock.
Held power button and re-powered up Opened Thunderbird - seemed ok then Firefox - no response, Thunderbird - then also but stopped responding, Plasma - stopped responding. Tried to login to a tty - had some weird errors so entered reboot at the prompt - hard-lock

Im running an Intel 12th Gen with Xe Graphics - no NVidia or AMD

Thinking about rolling back as issues I can deal with but hard-locks are not good

I think its Plasma that has the issues but with a hard-lock the logs show nothing

I added two email accounts to Vivaldi, just so I'd have access - of some kind - to email until this problem with Thunderbird is resolved. Then, this morning, Thunderbird was working perfectly aagain. I did absolutely nothing to cause thaat to happen.

Go figure! @mouse_AUS , any change for you today? I wonder if something's been fixed somewhere?

Works well!

Great test is that it accepts the clipboard from Solus Budgie Xorg running on my laptop via Input-Leap to Solus KDE Plasma 6 Wayland on my desktop.

I have a tiny suggestion, for devs' consideration.

Will it be possible for devs to keep the single >512MB linux-firmware package inside the getsol.us/shannon folder so that users have the option of wget'ting the entire linux-firmware, then sudo mv, and then performing the usual upgrade command?

This is so that Solus users can skip the linux-firmware installation time of 10-15 minutes, assuming they downloaded the firmware which has been split into smaller chunks.

These users who do the "wget -> sudo mv -> sudo eopkg up" will also see less errors on Terminal when they install the linux-firmware, which may also lead to less forum posts on such related issues.

No, that will not be happening.

The extra time required for the migration is a one off and they are not errors they are warnings and to be expected given the operation being performed.

What could be a purpose that tty (ctrl + alt + f2) no more working? So normally if something gone wrong I was able to do via tty the eopkg history command and rollback the update.This time it was not possible and the same command just open the boot aeh loader (kernels and the option to boot into the bios). When I try open tty while booting with a fresh installed solus it is working again.

Funny you say that, I have not had any lock-ups since and things lately have been ok. There has been nothing updated since so its weird!

I spoke to soon this last update seems to have broke hplip my canon works but needs ink..lol
The Hplip says printer is there and everything is fine but doesnt print anything I have to go into hplip
every time and start the job which is not right either even when I do that it does not print sits in lala land.

Axios is it a matter of maybe a .service getting shut off (print?) by accident (update etc)?

Update went fine.
Whats the reason libsecp256k1 got removed? It's an dependencies of electrum bitcoin wallet I am using. Are there any workarounds? Guess I have to use the appimage?

The other thing I noticed is that btop++ runs very laggy after the update when the package "rocm-smi" is installed. This is needed to display amd gpus temperature in btop. After removing rocm-smi, btop runs fine without laggs.

No packages depends on it anymore. We always try to keep the repository lean and clean. It used to be a dependency of electrum but it was removed a while ago, it should have been removed with it.

Did you build electrum yourself? If so than building secp256k1 for yourself shouldn't be hard. If not, then just use the appimage.

KRDP wont auto start after recent update. Just rebooted and the slider is off on the remote desktop settings will check other machine see if it the same.

Edit: Other Plasma machine is the same KRDP didn't start after reboot.

A report back from me.
I moved to CachyOS for testing reasons cause of the driver problem with Solus it was not possible for me to play any game with my system. So on CachyOS my system is on kernel 6.13.5-2 and nvidia 570.124.04 and it runs flawless.
So I know that I can be happy with Solus soon again and I don't need a new gpu (for now).
