Heya folks! It's Friday, and that means it's time for the weekly Solus roundup!
We have determined that last week's issue with downloading the updated linux-firmware
package is that the package size is over the CDN's file size limit of 512 MB, causing constant cache misses. This has been addressed by splitting linux-firmware
into several subpackages, instead of lumping them all into one huge package.
Note: Installing the package update will take a significant amount of time (likely between 8 and 15 minutes). Many file conflict warnings will also appear if the update is done in the terminal; these can be completely ignored.
Our KDE Plasma packages have been updated to 6.3.2. Plasma 6.3 contains many new features and improvements, including the ability to clone an entire panel, zooming with KWin, and enhanced support for drawing hardware. kwin-vk-hdr-layer
has also been updated to the latest commit to pick up the final HDR changes. There are many other changes, so be sure to check out the announcement!
We have a few new packages this week. To start with, gpu-screen-recorder
has been added to the repository. gpu-screen-recorder
is a Shadowplay-like screen recorder for Linux. It records using the GPU with minimal impact on the system. There is a GUI version offering ease of use, and a CLI for users who prefer a minimal installation.
Next up is r2modman
. r2modman makes modding supported games ridiculously easy, and also separates modded configurations from the game's OOTB configuration so that you can easily play your games unmodded as well. Mods are downloaded from Thunderstore.
Lastly, we have Adwaita Fonts. This package contains GNOME's variation of Inter, along with Adwaita Mono, which is a customized version of Iosevka to match Inter.
