Please check the ISO cheksum too. It will tell you whether the ISO is good or corrupted.

alfisya Both Get-fileHash ...\Solus-Budgie-Release-2025-01-26.iso and certutil -hashfile ...\Solus-Budgie-Release-2025-01-26.iso SHA256 gave correct result checking against the SHA256SUM file content.

Re-created the live USB on a newer, larger USB drive but same outcome.

Do u have an Nvidia GPU? And Do u get a black screen with a cursor?

Issue started occurring after the mid-December release (Fri 13 !?) and was testing to see if it still occurred with the latest iso running as live USB..

b23 I am unable to run the Solus-Budgie-Release-2025-01-26 iso in 8GB RAM as a live USB (get the black screen), although Solus-XFCE-Beta-Release-2025-01-26 will run OK.

no one will believe me if I say hardware, in my experience, (usb medium especially) is psychotically erratic and finicky where what you describe is not only plausible but normal > load one version, reject the other version..
..hell I've bare-metaled what could be installed vs what I wanted installed sometimes.
Jeeez a lot of words to say I don't think this is a Solus thing just some tiny thing talking/not talking to the medium

brent Tried a few different USB drives, including ones I have used in the past (reliably) and a new one, and it didn't seem to make any difference in this instance.

Think I can assume though that there is no increase in minimum requirements (original Q).

b23 Ok then I guess we are on the same boat. This happened to me too. I also have a GTX 1050ti and the 14-10-24 ISO worked perfectly. But the New 4.7 ISO started giving me issues. I kept trying different ways and you have two options right now unless a new iso gets released with this issue being fixed imo:
(Note: Idk if the driver package name would be different in your case as you have an old GPU. If it is then just use that package name)

If you can, Take out your GPU and install Solus 4.7 Budgie or Gnome using your iGPU and then update it and then plug in your GPU. If you get a black screen then press Ctrl+Alt+F2 or F3 idk to tty
And then put in your user name and password you used while installing Solus and then Install
Nvdia drivers using cli : sudo eopkg it nvidia-glx-driver-current nvidia-glx-driver-32bit
And install them and then type reboot. U would need an internet connection. It would be better if u have ethernet or u could connect wifi through the terminal using any guide online.
The easy way without taking out the GPU would be to use the old ISO 14-10-24 one and then update and then IF you get the black screen use the method I told u above to install nvidia drivers and then just type reboot.
These two things work in my case after trying everything I could for 2 hours.

They have a GTX 560M though, which is no longer supported by the proprietary NVIDIA driver, as @DESTINATOR pointed out.

Yup, as mentioned above this is normal and correct because you GPU is no longer supported by the proprietary NVIDIA driver. Make sure to uninstall any of those driver packages you installed on your systems, they can only cause trouble.

I agree with the suggestion to try installing from an older ISO, update, and install the proprietary nvidia drivers.

Doflicky (both Budgie and Xfce) do not identify any drivers to be installed. Gave installing nvidia-glx-driver-current a try but appears to have really messed the display up - just left with very basic text. Wasn't able to uninstall either.

The latest GNOME iso loaded up, displayed top and bottom panels, but a black screen for the remainder.

Xfce (latest iso) is running without any issues.

Even though my daily driver laptop is on Plasma, I continue to be impressed by Xfce. If Plasma ever became unavailable, Xfce would definitely be my first choice for a replacement.

b23 I just searched and latest driver for your graphics card is 390.157 for linux on Nvidia’s Website. And I think if the driver is not showing up in doflicky, then solus has stopped packaging that driver. Nvidia ended the support for your GPU in 2022.

I would like to install Solus on a 2010 Macmini 4.1 with NVIDIA GeForce 320M . With Solus 4.7 Budgie I have the problem of black screen with only cursor.

If I try to install Solus-XFCE-Beta-Release-2025-01-26 according to You should work correctly instead?

WetGeek Nearly got Xfce setup as I would like and am impressed.
Quite snappy even running on an old clunker that couldn't be upgraded from Win7.

Hi all,
I (prehistoric Solus user) can't even boot my notebook already cca 1.5 month after some updates (Solus Budgie - Asus, Nvidia). I have the same problem also when I try to boot from new Solus 4.7 iso.
I have two questions:

1)
Is there any link where I can download old Solus 4.6 or 4.5 iso?

2)
Is there any info when can we approximately expect the new Solus 4.8 iso?

You should test the lts kernel + nvidia driver.
Based on some posts on reddit/git the problem is more than 3 months old and still not fixed by nvidia. As soon you are on 6.12 and use a nvidia driver = a lot of problems or just blackscreen/no booting system.

I also had the problem with the budgie iso which seems also nvidia related. So I moved to xfce for an fresh install with my old 1070. As soon it is installed, you should install linux-lts as command or from the software center and select it via sudo clr-boot-manager set-kernel com.solus-project.lts.6.6.75-264 and use the command or hardware drivers aka DoFlicky to install the nvidia lts driver.

The Solus team usually gives no ETAs. Also the 4.7 ISOs were just released a short while ago so I wouldn't expect new releases very soon.

Originally loaded Solus (from about 4.3) onto the PC but have never installed Nvidia drivers (probably out of support by that time anyway). The setup worked without any display issues or black screens up to the mid-Dec 24 updates when I started getting the black screen after logging in to Budgie (note the login screen displays properly).

Have now loaded Xfce onto the same PC - Solus 4.7 Endurance, Xfce 4.20, Linux kernel 6.12.9-312.current. Software is up-to-date and no Nvidia drivers are installed. There are no issues with the display or occurrences of black screens.

Is anyone able to explain to me why the black screen after login to Budgie is an Nvidia driver issue and to revert to an LTS version of the kernel?
