Unable to run Budgie Live ISO - black screen

Originally loaded Solus (from about 4.3) onto the PC but have never installed Nvidia drivers (probably out of support by that time anyway). The setup worked without any display issues or black screens up to the mid-Dec 24 updates when I started getting the black screen after logging in to Budgie (note the login screen displays properly).

Have now loaded Xfce onto the same PC - Solus 4.7 Endurance, Xfce 4.20, Linux kernel 6.12.9-312.current. Software is up-to-date and no Nvidia drivers are installed. There are no issues with the display or occurrences of black screens.

Is anyone able to explain to me why the black screen after login to Budgie is an Nvidia driver issue and to revert to an LTS version of the kernel?

Yeah, your GPU is no longer supported by the proprietary NVIDIA drivers.

Hi all,
here are the results of my "old Solus 4.6" experimets on Asus Rog G752VS - completely empty clean hard drive.
Everything is ok, both with live USB and installed OS - unfortunately, the experience without Nvidia driver is what it is.

installation of Nvidia driver through DoFlicky finished with updating of entire OS = addio Solus.
Booting with old kernel = addio Solus.

updating Solus without Nvidia driver installed = addio Solus.
Booting with old kernel = addio Solus.

Cosmic Desktop Alpha 6.
Wayland, kernel 6-12-10, Nvidia 565.77.
Everything is ok, both with live USB and installed OS.

b23 Xfce (latest iso) is running without any issues.

I would like to install Solus on a 2010 Macmini 4.1 with NVIDIA GeForce 320M . With Solus 4.7 Budgie I have the problem of black screen with only cursor.

If I try to install Solus-XFCE-Beta-Release-2025-01-26 according to You should work correctly instead?

First, try the 4.7 XFCE ISOs from the public download page. If you see a black screen, please start a new thread. Thanks.

TraceyC Thanks for your reply! 4.7 XFCE live works, (no black screen) but sometimes there are some glitches at the window borders. In the coming days I will try Solus Budgie 2024-10-14 for comparison.

Considering that I use my computer to view streaming Italian TV channels (Raiplay.it) I did a few more tests:

Solus XFCE Beta Release 2025-01-26 : system interface OK - streaming NO GOOD (not smooth images and delays between audio and video)

Pop!_OS 22.04 LTS with NVIDIA : system interface OK - streaming NO GOOD (no smooth images and delays between audio and video)

Solus Budgie Release 2024-10-14 : system interface OK - streaming OK
