Thanks for bringing this program, HDSentinel, to our attention.
After playing around with it, I found an easy way was to just extract the binary file, HDSentinel
, from the archive you mentioned, and run that from the terminal. It's self-sufficient.
Run as is with no parameters, it gives a very useful output. If given a file for an output report, it gives an even more thorough information. For my use the short report is ideal! 👍
I've set up a monthly task for it to email drive status, so outside of catastrophic failure, it will give an indication of when to start thinking about drive replacement.
No doubt there's a dozen different ways to check drive status, but this gives a relatively simple and very useful output.
