Hello,
I'm using Solus Budgie and I found the default settings for text, icons, panels, etc. to be really, really too small generally speaking. So I wanted to make everything bigger ; I succeeded for the most part, except for some icons in the lower panel.

(I'm using French language, so my screenshots will be part French, part English, as the translation is not complete)

So, when I'm in the Budgie settings, in the lower panel options, there's an "applets" part and a "settings" part. In the setting part, I can change the size of the panel. That's great ; so I made it bigger. The icons on the lower left part (Budgie Menu, Icon Task List) grew bigger as the panel got bigger, so that's good ; but it didn't happen for the icons on the lower right part.
So, I went to the Applets part to see that. When I select "System Tray", there's an option "Scale icons with panel size" ; when I select it, the System Tray icon gets bigger like the panel. Yay!

But then, I tried to do the same thing with "Notifications", "Status Indicator", "User Indicator", "Clock" and "Raven Trigger". But none of them had the same option, so the size of the icons stayed small! That's a bit annoying and I really don't know if this issue can be solved.

So, that's my question: is it possible to align these icons with the size of the lower panel?
Thanks in advance 🙂

    random useless thoughts---

although you can blow applets up in some distros I would not necessarily want them as big as panel icons. but I sure understand the disparity and left-right difference visually...
...that huge difference, in your picture, is the reason I went to Plank. I left the icons alone and moved the Plank away from them on the opposite side of the screen.

    Looks better.

That said...could you actually increase display somehow by a certain percentage? Like 115? Or 120? then you could shrink your panel icon size to match the new big applets. It's a weird workaround, just an idea.

I do know one forum member who could tell you a definitive yes or no or maybe, as he is expert at editing .rss and this kind of stuff like this and that's @SethStorm666

edit: certain themes bump applet size up and down but not to the extent you are looking for

I went full in with plasma on all my machines, so I need to put budgie in VM, so I can test if anything can be edited via theming.

did not know that or I would not have troubled you, sorry Seth

The qt apps are great and it play nicely in the plasma/KDE environment. Even the GTK apps behave under Plasma in style and color which can't be said vice versa - that's one of the reasons. The other reason is that you can edit/modify almost everything in Plasma or find someone that did it for you 😉.
It taken some time before I took the plunge, but since Gnome wants to remove as many features and theming from the users, I had been looking for replacement in DE. I still do love Budgie mind you, but I can't bend either nemo or nautilus to my likening. So Plasma it be. 🙂

Cheers, Brent. I don't mind. I need Budgie in VM to test stuff either way.

Mirr Yes you can change Icon and Font sizes. 🙂

Select -> Budgie Desktop Settings -> Fonts -> Interface right button and adjust size bottom right -> Select 🙂

elfprince craigtoyoracer That did it! Many thanks!

just when I think I've seen every budgie setting I could possibly see there is always another one! 😄

brent Thanks for the links. I will check it out in detail in a couple days 🙂 if it's too complicated for me I might just switch to KDE Plasma.

SethStorm666 Oh I hesitated between Budgie and KDE Plasma when I installed Solus. I went for Budgie because that's the one Solus seems made for. Do you think KDE Plasma works just as well than Budgie with Solus ?

              Mirr Glad to hear.
Have you adjusted the Panel size ?
              -> BDS -> Bottom Panel -> Size +/-

Also for those looking for larger text overall, try BDS -> Fonts -> Text scaling.

              • Mirr replied to this.

craigtoyoracer Yes I did, the panel size adjusted, the left bottom icons adjusted, but not the right bottom ones, except System Tray after I selected "Scale icons with panel size" - but this setting doesn't exist for the other icons ("Notifications", "Status Indicator", "User indicator", "Raven Trigger").
