Shutdown for Plank

Maybe I'll try that sometime, out of curiosity. I've never found it hard to leave Xfce via the "Log out" link in the menu, so it's not a priority for me, but now I'm curious whether it will work with the Solus edition. Right now, though, I have some other pretty important things to do, so it'll need to be another time. Sometime I'll figure out if I can run Plank on Budgie, too. That's something I'd like to know - like I said, I like a dock.

WetGeek I'm running plank on Budgie right now, and it's fine. I just moved the panel to the top of the screen. I prefer it there.

WetGeek yes, Calamares is a pretty good installer. I installed Gentoo last week so you may have an idea on how much I appreciated Calamares!
I have a limited amount of data. Downloading the Budgie iso plus _1GB updates killed my budget. But I'll play with Budgie for a while in order to give it a decent chance.
I just wish I could find the name of that shutdown app!

Our 4.6 version .ISO files may be available by the time you're ready. That would save you time with updates, although since Solus is a rolling release, whether you install from a 4.5 .ISO or a 4.6 .ISO, you end up in the same place after doing an update.

Sounds like you're on a metered connection. In that case, it will be far cheaper for you to wait for the 4.6 .ISO files to be released. It won't be long now, though Solus never gives ETAs.

I was not questening that you can do it in XFCE, but I have never heard or seen it on Budgie. Have you tried looking in /usr/sbin ?

There's a command file called "shutdown". But I think you need to give it a string(s) to tell it to eg. shutdown, but can you drag that file into Plank? (I'm on Gnome so I can't test it). If so, you can make a script instead.

Even if you had the path to the Budgie Power Dialog executable, it wouldn't help. It is a program that is always running, and shows and hides itself in response to DBUS calls.

I've found more issues. I'm going back to XFCE as soon as the new iso comes out. I really like Solus so far. Especially eopkg.
It's just Budgie that's giving me problems that I can't fix.

So, I asked in buddiesofbudgie matrix channel how to trigger this dialog:

dbus-send --session --type=method_call --dest=org.buddiesofbudgie.PowerDialog /org/buddiesofbudgie/PowerDialog org.buddiesofbudgie.PowerDialog.Toggle

Now, you need to make a desktop file that runs that command or runs a script that runs that command, then run it via start menu and mark then as favourite in plank

No problem, I like this way of life hacking, Actually thanks to @EbonJaeger who gave me the info on how to run this logout dialog in the budiesofbudgie matrix channel.
@Axios What's the name of the icon you have taken for the desktop file. I kind of like it.

If anyone is interested in another hack of how to bind this dialog to the power button(like press pc/laptop power button, and this dialog appears), I kind of know of how to do it 😉

My linux mods and commands files are a mess got to edit them sometime if I ever lose them it will
be a shame stuff in them you wont find places.

Sebastian I tried run that dbus command through my brain with no success..lol
It works great but I dont use any those other shutdowns would be nice if it just brought up
the single shutdown menu.
Maybe its not something that it can do.
Anyways I will ponder it some more.

Axios Hey @Axios , I believe budgie-session-quit --power-off is what you want.
