Disabling wi-fi on the laptop would disable its network connection. I can't see how that would help.

The 2.4g on the wifi card is combined (both wifi and Bt use parts of it but not all) the 5g wifi is totally separate
I thought if you disable the wifi it might show something if there was a hardware issue with that module.
Since its just the plasma laptop causing you issues.
And if that did work would not say its hardware fault tho

What is the best command to be sure to use the good drive ?

To update the Grub bootloader, run the following command after fully updating your system, replacing sdX with the drive (not the partition) that Grub is installed on. Don't hesitate to ask for help to determine your boot disk or when you encounter any errors.

OK, I find an answer, just try several drives. For me GRUB is on sda :

Since I'd already spent lots of hours on two days with this issue, I decided it was probably time to just install the system again and start over. I'm well on my way to having the system back to where it was before all that nonsense started. No, I still can't connect the new Arteck mouse, but my keyboard and Logitech mouse are connected, and I'm pleased with that.

It's going to take a while to restore all my email filters, but I can do that over time, as needed. So, as of now, my Plasma 6 laptop is squeeky-clean, and configured as I like it. And I wish I'd just done this before I spent all that time on it.

Awww, rats! everything that was wrong before has started happening again. Starting with my mouse disconnecting, the bad config file reappearing in my .config folder, attempt to reconnect my mouse fails, according to the timeout and error message, but yet the mouse is connected and works fine.

Something is BROKEN with Plasma Bluetooth, and I can only hope it gets fixed in a future update.

WetGeek the config file isn't "bad". It's normally created as part of using plasma as it stores your current Bluetooth settings. The bad part is that the adapter would be stuck as disabled which is solved by deleting it (essentially reseting the settings).

No wonder it kept coming back. Thanks for explaining. Rebooting still does strange things to the panel that serves as a dock. It's easy to fix, as I wrote, but it would be nice if it didn't happen with every reboot.

WetGeek Do other Bluetooth devices work with your Plasma laptop? This sounds like the same issue that I had when I got a new Bluetooth Mouse. The Bluetooth on my laptop was just too old to connect to my new device. A little research will quickly reveal if your mouse should connect to the laptop.
Edit: From what I can see it was BLE (Bluetooth Low Energy) technology that my old Dell Latitude could not deal with along with a requirement for Bluetooth 4.0 or above, when my machine only sported 3.0.
I could not find an easy way to interrogate Bluetooth version on Linux so ended up running my VirtualBox Windows install and using a neat little tool by Sordum to tell me the version that was installed.

Thanks for your comment. Yes, in fact, I use Arteck keyboards (best I've ever found), so bluetooth from the same company works well. I'm pretty sure my Latitudes support BT5, because that's the requirement for the Logitech Triathlon mouse I've used for years (3 channels needed for the multi-device feature). I did a firmware update yesterday, so today I'll try again to see if anything improved.

In this case, I rather suspect it's KDE Plasma 6 still having some issues that need to be sorted out. The new mouse works fine with my Windows 10 media machine, and with my Samsung smartphone, and both of those are happy to connect in less than a second. And Plasma 6 still has some other oddities. I'm hoping those get fixed soon.

Gnome-software updated flatpak runtimes which is cool and my keyboard-mouse firmware which is also cool
without issues.
Seems to work a whole lot better than like fedora it always had issues.
Keep up the good work.

I used it this morning to update the DELL firmware on my Xfce laptop. I'm pretty sure it did everything that Discover has done on the Plasma laptops. I can't say whether gnome-software compares favorably with Discover when it comes to other features, as the only feature I've used is firmware update, but it handled that well indeed.

The ping issues still persists for me. I'm on kernel 6.8.11-292.current.
I can ping 192.168.0.1 just fine, but pinging e.g. www.example.com will lead to
PING www.example.com (2606:2800:21f:cb07:6820:80da:af6b:8b2c) 56 data bytes
where it stops the output.

As mentioned in the update thread of week 16/2024 the issue seemed to be fixed.

linux-current and addon kernel modules cherry-picked to fix regression with ping and other networking issues.

Web requests are still slow to respond on other occasions, too - like starting a stream or doing a system update via Software Center. Am I supposed to install linux-current-headers to get the benefits of the updated kernel? I'm not sure what to do about this issue at all. When I boot into an installation with an old kernel the network stuff works as expected.

Turning network off and on solves the issue reliably.

I found time to debug the spotify-qt issue and it turned out to be a configuration issue, not sure what trigger it.
Deleting spotify-qt.json and re-configuring the app fixed my issues.
