EbonJaeger On a somewhat related note, libxcb and xcb-proto were both updated, bringing us closer to explicit sync support. If you haven't heard of explicit sync before, it is a feature recently integrated into Wayland, finally solving the biggest issues with using NVIDIA and Wayland together. Explicit synchronization promises to refine the interaction between applications, the operating system, and graphics hardware, promising to lead to smoother and more reliable graphics performance across a variety of devices.

I'm personally happy with Nouveau, but this is really cool to hear for Linux progress.
Rebooted and kicked the tires---update went good. Thank you.

UncleSlacky Correction, I spoke too soon. It worked immediately after the update, in the first session after rebooting, but on subsequent boots the backlight is stuck on (probably where I left it) and the popup slider doesn't move from the null/zero position. @ReillyBrogan could you reopen https://github.com/getsolus/packages/issues/1861 ?

No problems encountered too with this latest Solus update (79 packages, 1,10 GiB).

And the problem of a broken glibc package encountered previously when typing the terminal command sudo eopkg check has been resolved.

KDE desktop here.
Now Thomas Okken's Free42 RPN-calc binaries are not working anymore, sadly. I probably have to compile from source, if I can find the them.
Also I notice a small niggle;
when I have made a desktop program starter, it goes away if I modify its properties, e.g. change its name. Refreshing the desktop does nothing, but a log out & in makes it reappear.
Would love an RPN-calc though..

After changing password on an IMAP account, the account could become locked due to too many failed login attempts

So I would advise if you are going to change the password for an account, remove it from thunderbird, change password and add it back.

Hey everyone, there's a major regression in Plasma 6.0.4 that is causing inconsistent frame times in games and stutter/lag in the UI. Upstream is working on a fix and we'll be cherry-picking it as soon as it's ready.

If this issue is affecting you and you don't want to wait for the fix you can run the following command to revert just kwin (the package causing the issue) to the previous version.

If I use ethernet cable, e1000e module causes CPU BUG and the system is hanging. The only solution is to use the power button.

EDIT 1: Yep, reverting the latest updates fixed the ping issues.
The problem with the ethernet connection remains though, found this on the arch forum... seems related:

presianbg I have the same issue with ping.
It is not able to do name resolution

❯ ping google.com
ping: unknown host

But with IP address it's also not working, even on local network, don't even get a timeout, just hangs.

❯ ping 192.168.180.1
PING 192.168.180.1 (192.168.180.1): 56 data bytes
(hangs waiting... util I cancel it)
^C--- 192.168.180.1 ping statistics ---
1 packets transmitted, 0 packets received, 100% packet loss

Same issue regardless if I connect on LAN cable or WiFi.

Booting into linux-lts (6.6.28-241.lts) is fixing the ping. The e1000e regression remains even with this kernel.
I'm pretty sure downgrading to something like pre 6.8.5 and linux-lts 6.6.26 will fix that too.

I tried fping, but also doesn't work. No issue with SSH or HHTP(S) connections.

I found that ping causes some errors in journalctl

This is what I get if I try to ping a local host by name (same for normal user and root):

palto42 , yes, the name resolution is not working either, but I consider this as a consequence of a deeper problem with the latest kernel. I might be wrong ofc, but looks like many people from different distros are complaining about 6.8 and the backported lts versions for all kind of reasons - gpu drivers, nic drivers and etc...

presianbg Name resolution works for other commands like ssh or curlin my case, so there seems to be something specific to ping.
