rkill gone? I just tried to kill an unresponsive app (game launcher that I was trying to get to work) and it didn't pop up. Used to be I could just ctrl + alt + esc, cursor would turn into a skull and crossbones and I could just click to kill the offending program. To be fair I don't know if it went away in the upgrade, or at some point prior.

Are there any good replacements?

Update It was called xkill. It had gotten removed at some point and not reinstalled. Perhaps from the 6 upgrade? Like ksysguard? Anyway I have it working now.

xkill was still present on my system after the Plasma 6 update. Glad you have it working now.

Some additional problems since Plasma 6:

I have to do plasmashell --replace everytime my external monitor goes to sleep
I have the same problem like @rincor with some applications, they are visible in the front, but when I click on it or type in something the window behind it is actually receiving the commands. Don't know exactly how to trigger it, but I guess it's only in the Wayland session

No, it's also present on X11 (I'm on X11).

In the latest update, now my 3440x1440 monitor refresh rate of 100hz only shows 60 hz or 50 hz. I could be wrong, about the 100 hz, but is there any place for me to check what refresh rates are available for a monitor?

Bhibb "latest update" as in you were running plasma 5 before, or the most recent sync? You could query the edid of the monitor to see what it supports, we don't have any in-repo tools for this (though I should probably add one) but there are a number of projects out there that you can build that would do it.

Also, Wayland or X11? They both do output handling very differently.

ReillyBrogan Latest update meaning our latest sync, and I'm working under Wayland for now. Once I'm done for the day I'll close out my work and switch to X11 to see if the monitor reports a different refresh rate/what the xrandr settings report, etc. and report back.

Bhibb I was wrong, we actually do have a tool to parse the monitor EDID and it should already be installed since you're on Plasma. You can run the following to see the exact resolutions and frame rates that your monitor supports:

ls /sys/class/drm
# This will show you the GPUs detected and the ports they have. The following command will depend on which GPU you're checking and which port

Bhibb I owned this monitor and I'm sure it had 100 Hz. When I google for it the specs also say 100 Hz. If you look at Detailed Timing Descriptors. DTD 2: Has 99.98 Hz.

Bhibb I guess if you didn't have any packages installed that got deprecated in last sync you could try to undo last update with rollback and check for monitor refresh rate then.

ReillyBrogan The issue is still present. I have done a bit more reading and it seems that it is connected to the presence of the tray icon. When the icon is disabled and I change download preferences then qBittorrent crashes, if I enable it then I can change download preferences and it won't crash. kaktuspalme Sebastian Thank you both for jogging my memory and for the link to rollback.

I've tried to rollback to 3/30/2024's update, but even after a reboot my external monitor still shows 60 hz in Wayland and X11. The monitor is working at 60hz and 50hz, but it won't show me 100hz (or 99.98hz). I tried rolling back to other upgrades, and with reboots the refresh rate was still the same.

I've noticed a new issue where I cannot "logout" of my Plasma 6 session (X11 or Wayland) and if I want to switch between them I need to "Switch Users." When I click the logout button it kills my apps, but does not actually logout.

My system is working, but these two issues are the major ones now:

USB C to Display Port monitor used to show 99.98hz, now shows only 50 and 60hz.
I cannot log out of a Plasma 6 session (X11 or Wayland).

Might be a kernel bug. You should try booting into the previous kernel

ReillyBrogan Thanks for suggesting this. I just rebooted into the previous kernel on my machine but the same issues persist: I cannot select 100hz on my monitor and I cannot logout of my session.

ReillyBrogan So I realized that while I was gone on a trip for a week, that I had let someone else use my desk and monitor. Somehow they had set my Display port to 1.1 instead of 1.2, and once I set this back to 1.2 it miraculously solved both my issues of the missing 100hz (pretty obvious) and I know have the ability to logout as expected (not sure why the monitor would have anything to do with this).

Somehow it's all working now. Thanks for troubleshooting with me.

Lucien_Lachance I added the upstream fix to our kf6-solid package and it should be in the next sync.

Thank both of you for doing the legwork of linking to the appropriate issues so I could just follow the links to get the fixes.

rincor Yes I've seen the bug report. I don't know wether you are using Jetbrains Tools as well. But in case you have that problem also with those tools, I deactivated the New UI. So far I didn't have the bug again, but not enough time yet to say it's not happening anymore.

I use the classic UI, but the bug is still there unfortunately.
Hopefully it will resolved soon, though it was first reported in Dec.

just installed solus plasma 6
but i cant mount my luks encrypted external usb drive. which is a problem as it contains ALL my stuff.

the disks and devices applet says "you are not authorized to mount this drive"

and dolphin says " an error occured while accessing [drive id] the system responded: the object does not exist at path "/" "

tried both x and wayland, and 2 different drives, both produce the same error. im guessing its something trivial, but ive never encountered this before

edit: mounts no problem on my solus gnome laptop
edit 2: can mount it if unlocking the drive in kde partition manager first

Lucien_Lachance I literally just had this problem starting this week. My workaround was to install gnome-disk-utility and decrypt the drive through the GUI there. Once decrypted, it mounts for me (my 14TB backup drive is mounted this way).
