Axios I dont think anyone can get away from the ink/toner woes
I don't know whether I've actually gotten away from them, but I think I might have. I bought an Epson
ET 2850 that uses built-in ink tanks instead of cartridges, and I haven't had it long enough yet to be unhappy with it. It's been easy to set up, and with wi-fi, I can use it from any computer upstairs or downstairs. I had to use the scanner/copier when I needed to prove to my mortgage company that I had simply changed my homeowner's insurance to another company instead of dropping it altogether - saved me a trip to the store to make a copy.
It's the easiest printer I've ever used to do envelopes (works with LibreOffice just fine) and it does two-sided printing automatically. It almost spits out the paper after printing the first side, and then pulls it back in and prints the second side. It's not as fast as some printers I've owned, but I'm now beyond the age of worrying about that. It's plenty fast enough for me.
And since it doesn't use ink cartridges, there's no way for it to refuse to work if you don't buy your ink from Epson. It will be a long time until I need to buy more ink, so again, I need to point out again that I haven't had it for a long time, but I'm hopeful that since Epson has been around forever, it will probably give me good service.
At $230 from Amazon, it isn't the cheapest printer, but as an ink-jet it will also work as a photo printer, something that color laser printers don't do well. There's no question whether it will work with Linux. That's about all there is in this house. And if I use it a lot, I'll eventually save the $230 on ink, I'm pretty sure.
EDIT: I didn't mention that it doesn't require any special drivers, and it accepts voice commands. That makes it especially suited to those of you who use phones as cameras. I've gotta try that one sometime soon.
