Just for giggles, does Solus have your model's .ppd driver in the Add Printer dialogue box like it has Gwen's? And if so, why don't you use it? (asked because I'm trying to figure something out. see 3rd paragraph).
I believe mapping the IP address would solve OP's problems. I believe installing the drivers via your tutorial here would also solve OP's problem.
What's nagging at me from day one is OP does not have to go outside Solus for their driver--Solus has them..it should work. The only advantage of going outside Solus at this point would be to force Solus to see the printer, just like ip address would. At this point Gwen has more options which is good.
