WetGeek When you set a delay, then click to take the shot, then right-click to display the context menu, it's already too late to capture it. The delay you set is ignored, and the shot is taken before you have a chance to select the area and snap it.

I've been configuring XFCE the last 3 hours, now I'm back in Budgie. I DID notice this. I noticed when I select 'select an area' that very thing happened and the selector mouse was cut out once--disappeared. It's a buggy app and I'm inclined to import gnome-screenshot into xfce (unless that is gnome screen shot?)---I could get what I wanted but it took a while.

It's nifty and modest and you are right: it's a plethora of config settings.
I went and fetched a very hardened user.js for firefox from github because I get sick of browser settings🙂. Viv Snapshot will be next.

You know how you said you have it looking identical to Plasma (sans k-packages)? I think we are all inclined to do that even me. While there is no way in he** I could use a stock configuration, I want a different experience except I don't know what it is...

      I don't have a quick answer, but I'm pretty sure I saw a menu editor while I was poking around in Xfce. Maybe that would do it for you?

          Dig this, I found some dark theme in the stock list (I did install a couple but not that one) called xhcd or something like that. It rounded the corners of my windows. Splendid.
          I don't have this near daily use yet (printers, scanner, etc) but I'm grateful I can tinker a little at a time and make the changes that way instead of all at once.
          I don't like the stock Thunar settings so next I will spend an hour getting the file manager the way I need it.
          The terminal looks and behaves like gnome-terminal. Which is good enough for me.
          I like this much more than Mate.

                          I agree. It was bulletproof. But Mate as your Server distro makes perfect sense to me.
                          And XFCE, to me, definitely has a learning curve. It does a few things different--a strange bird in a good way. Not everything is centralized but you get the rhythm of it.
                          Whether XFCE gets that bulletproof reputation we will see, it's early. Sure it will.

                                gnome-screenshot is on top. that works better for me.
                                gotta get rid of/remove from menu the xfce-screenshot. how? eopkg hopefully without breaking deps.

                                still to do: find and install more thunar plugins. It's funny like Nemo with the cool stuff.

                                I have NO PRIVACY settings dialed in yet and Redshift is the same as Budgie: "GEOCLUE HAS NO ACCESS TO THE OUTSIDE WORLD SO SCREW YOU AND YOUR NIGHTLIGHT." --this was BEFORE I installed UFW...
                                What can I do for a screenshifter dimmer.? Appending their .conf file to every known internet example, even with manual longitude, latitude, and gamma settings did nothing (even on Budgie)...too bright right now.

                                that blue rectangle blob on the bottom almost near the end is some kind of panel window control where you can shuffle stuff in real time but I can't figure it out. yet, I will.

                                just firefox and epiphany right now. just installed UFW.

                                spent time with Thunar. I like it better. Next: look at SC and see what I can add to Thunar.

                                So far: I got rid of one XFCE app which is screenshot.
                                I like XFCE everything else including terminal.

                                Wekgeek mentioned a menu editor but I don't know what it is and haven't seen/looked for it.

                                It's an attractive DE, I'm grateful to explore it little by little.

                                  I have not tried this version yet but have a preemptive question! On all my machines I always get some screen tearing on XFCE so tend to use Plasma or Budgie to save time and problem solving on this issue. Does this version have any built in short cuts for overcoming screen tearing? I like XFCE because it is fast and lightweight and I have some old laptops that would maybe benefit from moving to this version. Solus is always reliable for me and if Plasma is anything to go by, as Solus plasma is superb and very lightweight compared to other KDE Distro's. I will have to find time to try this XFCE version out, it certainly looks good from the feedback so far!

                                    DJSupertel As far as I know the XFCE edition uses the standard XFCE compositor, so I guess the best bet is to try a live USB and see if it has tearing issues on your hardware.

                                      What is your image of? In the Whisker menu on my system, there's only one Screenshot entry. Have you installed some other plugins or other additional software?

                                          They are different entries. The first one points to the default terminal of the system and the second one points specifically to xfce-terminal.

                                                [deleted] it was late so let me check it again. When I launched each terminal I clicked their 'about' and both said xfce-terminal. I'll try it again. I don't know the diff between default and system terminals but I like the terminal all the same.

                                                          Understood. It didn't occur to me to install the GNOME version, but I've now done that. It's UI is very crude, compared to Xfce's but the delayed screenshot for a selected area works well. I'll keep that installed on my Xfce laptop until there's a fix available for the Xfce version. Thanks for helping with this issue.

                                                          Now ... if you just had a solution for the Bluetooth/keyboard issue I'm having, I'd be extremely happy! 🙂

                                                              If anyone is a glutton they can corroborate a dev tracker bug report I filed this morning.
                                                              Flatpak or repo Epiphany (gnome-web) freezes/crashes my XFCE in every modality (terminal or menu icon). That's four hard boots today.
                                                              Eolie would not stay launched either. Of 3 browsers I've tried on XFCE, only Firefox works. I was looking for a super light browser but I can't get any to work. (Falkon would bring kwallet and a lot of stuff I don't want to bring into the Beta right now or I'd use it.)

                                                              Not much fun with XFCE this afternoon as far as making it a work station but there is always tomorrow. Rebooting into Budgie right now.

                                                              Migrated /home from Budgies to Xfce and using it as my daily driver. No blocker until now. For browser, I install Edge manually from their rpm package.

                                                                minh how do you install an RPM package on Solus? Is that easier than just getting the Edge flatpak?

                                                                I also got the edge Flatpak out of desperation. I'm afraid to walk on the dark side and I will probably never launch it after reading their privacy policy/eula. but it is a snazzy browser. they re-wrote chrome and it's better than chrome. I tried it once.

                                                                Edge not what I'd call lightweight by any stretch. firefox, chromium, brave, vivaldi, opera either.

                                                                for anyone following my XFCE misadventures I only got 1 out of 3 lightweight browsers to work in XFCE. Carpe Diem!
                                                                Yes, the butt-ugly Midori actually works as a lightweight browser. I was whining for a lightwweight browser than didn't wreck XFCE and got it on the third try! Except it's Midori. And it only stays in light theme. And with spell checker enabled it does not spell check.

                                                                Startin to get the rhythm of XFCE. It's Beta for a reasons you might see here and there, but it's mostly complete. It's starting to grow on me.
