  • After doing a bit of research it seems that my problem is related to this: https://discuss.getsol.us/d/783-cant-boot-into-solus and this https://discuss.getsol.us/d/264-installing-solus-on-acer-notebook-uefi-issue suggests that the issue may be specifically affecting acer computers. Not sure if there's much I can do at this point since the problems persisting even after entirely reinstalling solus. I guess I might just hold till the next kernel update and hopefully it'll work then?

  • Have a good vacation homie. Huge fan of your work out here. If you like coffee the Spanish got some good stuff out there.

  • [deleted] I don't think so. Running df -h shows that the boot partition is only 15% full.

    • A couple weeks ago I switched over to the plasma iso after my budgie installation broke during one of the updates. But the exact same issue now seems to be plaguing me on plasma with the recent update. After upgrading to the most recent kernel I get "Error loading \EFI\com. solus-project\kernel-com. solus-project.current.5.0.5-113: Not Found" when attempting to boot into it and then get kicked into my bios. Thankfully the previous kernel remains fully functional but I really can't tell what's causing this.

      • Harvey Ah cool so it really is as simple as a repo switch. Thank you much.

      • I've installed the new Plasma testing iso but noticed that it runs off the unstable repo. Is there a way to switch the system entirely over to stable packages? Does switching the repo then updating do so automatically? Or are Plasma user stuck in unstable for now? I don't mind the unstable repo much butI'd rather have a weekly update schedule with fewer chances of running into a bug.

      • Justin Nah it's all good. Just decided to reinstall with the KDE iso. Was lookin for a change of scenery anyways.

      • Justin This is what I got:

      • Justin Just did it. While it was updating clr-boot-manager it returned "Child process 'usr/bin/clr-boot-manager' exited abnormally. Do you think I might've fucked up the bootloader or something? It's refusing to recognize 5.0 as the new kernel.

      • dbarron Sorry if this is a bit of a noob question but I am pretty green when it comes to this stuff. What command should I use to do it? It's not letting me use rm in the boot/efi folder because it's set read-only. Even while in su it won't remove them.

      • Justin Nope i'm pretty sure it finished entirely and I finished up some work before rebooting to complete the update.

      • otavioschwanck yeah but I'm just using it to try to figure whats going on because I've only got access to a command line through it.

      • Justin actually I just did some digging and it seems the boot partition is not the problem. Running df -h says the partition is only 17% full. It seems that clr-boot-manager is misbehaving and causing issues.

        • After the latest sync the 5.0 kernel is refusing to boot. Whenever I try to boot to it I just this error: "Error loading \EFI\com. solus-project\kernel-com. solus-project.current.5.0.5-113: Not Found"
Quickly followed by "Failed to execute Solus 4.0 Fortitude (\EFI\com. solus-project\kernel-com. solus-project.current.5.0.5-113): Not found" at which point it kicks me into my BIOS bootloader. The previous kernel is still functional.

        • @Justin Honestly I use it cause I think tons of these browsers are just reinventing the wheel. Vivaldi seems really cool to tinker with but FF gets my work done, is customizable enough, and has the extensions I want (uMatrix, privacy badger etc.) It's also nice to be settled into a relatively stable and long standing piece of software and Firefox provides all that while being OSS.

        • I dunno if it was the nvidia driver update or some other update but lately it feels like the screen tearing issues I had on firefox have been mostly fixed. I might've just gotten used to it but its definitely less noticeable.

        • Gotta say I really fell back in love with Budgie after a short period of being impressed by the bigger DEs bells and whistles. It''s flexible enough to adapt to your workflow but still keeps thing nice and sleek. Been looking to see if there's any software or widgets that I could put on my actual desktop as all the empty space is useless

          • @JoshStrobl This might be kinda off-topic but I've been meaning to ask what kind of local music player you use? I remember seeing one in one of your tweets a while back that seemed pretty cool
