Hi,
I was having trouble lately not being able to open Franz (Solus Plasma).
I wanted to reinstall it, but after uninstalling it I noticed it wasn't part of the repo and no longer part of the third party repo (?).
I tried to install it as an appimage but I had trouble running it.
I then found a link to this: "eopkg bi --ignore-safety https://raw.githubusercontent.com/solus-project/3rd-party/master/network/im/franz/pspec.xml"
But I think it's an old version (5.0 vs current 5.9 I think?), and whatsapp doesn't run.
Anyway, what's the best way forward? Appimage? Something else?

Re appimage, I tried making it executable and giving it full permissions, and I was able to run it as a script, but after closing and reopening, it logs out of all services. I saw AppImageLauncher, but I'm not sure if it's the way to go or how to download and install it (doesn't mention Solus as a supported OS).

Cheers!

Oops, I looked in Franz's website, appimage was mentioned but not flatpak so I missed it...
Works perfect, thanks for the reference!

That is a link to our old GitHub organisation, which hasn't been used since 2017(?) or so.

The current instructions for Third Party apps are found here: https://help.getsol.us/docs/user/software/third-party/

This just to clarify. I'd still recommend using the flatpak because the Third Party repository is on it's way out. Apps in there will be replaced with flatpaks anyway at some point.

YoniV I was having trouble lately not being able to open Franz (Solus Plasma).

I've never seen or used Franz, but maybe Telegram would be a good replacement that's readily available in the Solus repository. I use it on my laptop to keep in touch with friends I've met on X, and on my phone to make video phone calls. It's very private and versatile, with its encryption. And free, of course.

@Staudey, Yes, I realized that it was old at some point, but just didn't really know what else to try.
The flatpak version works with no issues so far, except for the oddity that it changes the mouse cursor to the (default?) black breeze. But that's okay.

@WetGeek, I use Franz as a one stop shop for most of my comm needs: email(s), whatsapp, todoist etc. Telegram is also supported, as are many other services. Pretty convenient.
