I have a Dell XPS 8940 with an i9, GeForce 3060, and 64 GB of RAM. Windows 11 and Solus 4.4 are installed on separate drives.

  1. My second monitor is not being detected. I installed the 3rd party drivers from software center. Is there something else I need to configure?

  2. What is the keyboard shortcut to bring up the start menu? I looked in settings-keyboard-shortcuts, but none of the options are clicking for me.

  3. How do I edit the application shortcuts in the bottom panel. For example I don't need Firefox, but do want Chrome down there.

Thanks so much!

Matt

  • mattpoll What is the keyboard shortcut to bring up the start menu?

Use the "Windows" key to launch the main menu. It works the same way on Windows, and if you see any references to the Super key on Linux, it's the same thing.

The application shortcuts you're referring to are probably icons in the task manager. Just right-click on one, and the context menu will tell you how to un-pin it. Do the reverse with Chrome. First launch it from the Internet menu, then right-click on its icon in the task manager, and click to pin it there.

Whether you click on an item that actually says "pin" or "unpin", or you simply click or unclick a starred image depends on which DE you're using (you didn't mention that), but the process is the same.

Sorry, I have no idea about the dual monitor issue. I use dual monitors on my workstation, and there's never been a problem with any Solus edition. I've used both Budgie and (currently) KDE Plasma on that machine.

Thanks, The Windows/Super key is one I should have thought of. This issue with the second monitor is going to be a pain to deal with. Guess I'll keep looking.

      Thank you!

What port do you use to connect the second monitor? Show: inxi -Gxx and xrandr -q
