I havent been Happy with Linux video editors on Intel the quicksync drivers Lack apparently, Nowdays quicksync is only way to do it on intel.(think its a lack on inteIs and not linux from what I read) dont know about the other processors. I tried shotcut appiamage on solus wasnt happy runs great in winders with quicksync I7. If linux ever gets quicksync will be switching.

Axios If you are experimenting with video editors you can try Blender. I found it was nearly required that you follow along with a video tutorial to start. Also, when looking for tutorial videos, be sure they use Blender 2.8+. There was a big change around 2.8.

sorry to necro but does someone know if davinci resolve works with solus yet? I'm looking to install solus and replace my ubuntu installation but I regurlary edit too.

Johandherdt AMD cards definitely still do not work with Resolve.
Resolve has not been packaged for Solus in the intervening months, so if it was a dependency issue stopping Nvidia & Intel graphics from working there would be no change: you would have to figure out which dependencies you need.

Johandherdt yep, Ryzen 5 3600, 12 GB RAM, GTX1050, DaVinci is working. Needed ocl-icd

Yes i confirm davinci resolve 17 works on solus with ocl-icd

I think, need wrote guide for installing DaVinci on Solus and add this in help center in section Software. I don't use davinci often, but I can do it. Also need to know how davinci works with amd

George Also need to know how davinci works with amd

It doesn't. DaVinci needs OpenCL, OpenCL for AMD is provided by the amdgpu-pro driver which is only officially available for RedHat and Ubuntu.

In theory OpenCL for AMD cards could be provided by ROCm, but that would have to be packaged for Solus, which is not easy. There is some community effort on this unofficial github repo https://github.com/emaimx/Solus-ROCm-build

vinceff How did you managed to make it work?
The installation was really easy, but my issue it's that I don't get any video playback when import anything. I tried different formats and non of them show anything, it's just pure black. It seems like it only recognize the audio when I put it in the timeline, but even the audio it's not getting playback.

I have Nvidia drivers up to date and ocd-icd installed.

              Hello to you,
Attention with the free version of Davinci Resolve no possibility of reading or other with the MP4 format ...

atriaze Hello, so what format does it reads? Because mp4 it's the only one that even let me insert in the project, even thou it doen't work. I try MKV and AVI and doesn't even show up in the project if I drag it or import it.

Great, understanding "codec" and "container" is important. You will find quite a few things on the net. You will learn more about ProRes and DNxHD and h.264. 🙂

atriaze Yes, I know. I just didn't know that Davinci Resolve on Linux only accept ProRes.
