Different graphics driver to mine, other than it is an Intel one but your screen crash could be similar to what I was experiencing. Screen flickered badly when mouse was about an inch off the bottom of the screen when mouse cursor located over one line of pixels. Can be repeated reliably with patience and a mouse, less reliably with a track-pad because less fine control over cursor position. Did not seem to find the same issue when trying other distros in live mode.
If it is the same there is a fix because I am using it. You can try it out without modifying your system by booting into Solus Live environment and then do the following.
At /usr/share/X11/xorg.conf.d/ Create a file
You should name your file.conf: 20-intel_flicker_fix.conf
And place the following inside:
Section "Device"
Identifier "Intel Graphics"
Driver "intel"
Option "TripleBuffer" "true"
Option "TearFree" "true"
EndSection
Log off and back on again
