Welcome to Solus! Years ago, like you, I ended my distro-hopping adventure when I found Solus. Although I enjoy investigating Other Interesting Distros (mainly in VMs), I'm not the least bit tempted to abandon Solus. And welcome to the forum.

Pssst: KDE Plasma's my favorite DE as well. And Solus does an exceptional job with it.

@Staudey, my numbers aren't as large as yours, because I didn't get my torrent server going until after I'd bought the computer and set it up, but I still find these figures curious. I wanted to show you what I'm seeing here.

Plasma finally overtook MATE in the seeding, but MATE is still being seeded far more than either Budgie or GNOME. That's why I mentioned this when I did. I would have expected results much more like yours.

coloratura Hello! I just hopped over to Solus from another distro, and so far I love the experience. I wanted a KDE Plasma environment, reasonably up to date packages without breaking everything, no data collection, a community based distro without major corporate involvement, and no Snap pre-installed. I had hopped around on dozens of distros, never quite finding what I needed, until someone recommended Solus.

Welcome! I am using Solus for a long time, you can say it was my 1st distro! Budgie edition tho 🙂

I won't critizise the Planned deprecation of the MATE Edition. But as a user of that one, the above quote got me a little paranoid. So I decided get a bunch of things from the software center, which I imagine I may require at some point, for something. Google chrome, Code::Blocks etc. Because as I understand, in a while, it is impossible to add anything from there. Right?
For sure I will leave my Solus MATE installation as-is, between the multiboot options. I invested quote a few hours in customizing it, up to the exact pixel of UI and Fonts. Maybe at some point I will clone the disk and put that through the proposed Xfce migration.
Well, thanks anyways for the 4.4 updates. Especially the Wine v8.10 update is much appreciated.

No, those have nothing to do with the individual packages comprised of software and libraries developed by MATE. Your ability to get software via the Software Center is not based on what edition or desktop environment you are using.

I did a clean installation of Solus 4.4 Budgie two days ago. Congratulations and thanks to the team for building yet another great edition of Solus. I have been using Solus for over five years, and for me it is the best Linux distro. I run Solus on a 12-year-old Vaio notebook PC, and in several respects it runs better than a newer Windows machine which I use for my work (mainly to use InDesign).

I'm so glad this distro has come back from the dying. Along with NuTyX it is IMO one of the best KDE distros which is my preferred DE. Tried to like KaOS since it's dedicated to KDE but just too many niggles. Not reliant on anything else as a 'base' both Solus and NuTyX are quick to install and easy to setup. Considering the history Solus will need a period of development stability now in order to win back those lost and inspire greater confidence in potential new users. Wishing everyone connected a long and happy future.

Might seem as a stupid question, but did the migration to Nemo improve the active desktop feature? Since the abandon of the older Nautilus versions its implementation was not 100% funcional as it used to be, so I guess Nemo could handle it properly.

Hi everyone.
Installed a few days ago on my HP notebook and it works very well!
I use the Gnome version.
I use it mostly for video-music-games and after many distro tries I HOPE to stop with distro hopping.
A heartfelt thanks to the developers.

Most of us have been there, done that. It's still interesting to take a look at other interesting distros, to see how the others do things, but Solus is a comfortable place to call "home."
