For some reasons I have to use windows regularly. And for unlocking the locked Win system, I have to hit "Ctrl Alt Del" as usual.
And sometimes my hands are faster than my brain and I hit this key combination on a locked Solus Budgie. As a treat for my stupidity the login prompt loses its focus for something in the background afterwards (I guess it's the shutdown menu), and I can't login anymore.
Only thing I can do then is "switch user", I switch to myself (single user), and when back logged in I find the system in one of two different states: either there is the shutdown dialog open ("do you really want..") and everything is still running or I'm newly logged in as if I had logged off before (which I surely did without knowing).
The second is frustrating. Any advice how to get out of the situation without losing data?

Robotmike2 or I'm newly logged in as if I had logged off before (which I surely did without knowing).

^^ isnt's this what you want though? log in and load OS? or you are newly logged and OS doesn't load?

If it were me at the first misfire:
    #1--ESC
    or
#2--double down on ctrl alt del.
Even if you ctrl+alt+F2 (that's my tty) I wouldn't know what to tell you. I think the answer to login is in the TTY and I have no brain for this one.

I take it you had a long heart to heart with yourself about whatever you had unsaved is worth saving. And you decided it was not worth recreating and you just had to have it, right? It would just be a plain HUGE loss if you let it go? I thought I had a bad day.
Maybe not do ctrl alt delete again...
What can you do in the terminal to bypass Lockscreen login and load OS? Certainly someone knows.
edit/asked a question but forgot question mark

Robotmike2 That is shutdown key combo so prob the shutdown screen
I am on mate But I would think this could be done for the others to somehow but I would go in
and change that key combo to something else.

Axios Yesss! Thanks a lot. I never dove down to the key combo settings before. It was set to "log off" and is disabled now. Gate's curse is averted.
