brent Solus has like 5-6 channels and I don't know how to monitor them, which ones to monitor for update news, etc, all let alone have a discussion
You will find the following Solus rooms on the matrix.org homeserver:
#solus-support:matrix.org Support room
#solus-off-topic:matrix.org Off-topic room
#solus-development:matrix.org Development-related room
#solus:matrix.org Matrix Space containing all rooms
Source: https://help.getsol.us/docs/user/contributing/getting-involved#matrix-chat
Which is pretty straight forward. 3 rooms and a home space that shows all available Solus channels. You can join all those rooms and they become tabs you can switch between. You can exit the app, come back days later and read the logs if you really want to.
What might confuse you is the existence of a Matrix bridge for IRC. This existed to allow Matrix users to connect to our IRC channels in the days before we moved to Matrix. Those IRC channels have a name that start "Libera IRC:" you should ignore them, nothing of value there, they will go away one day.
- Support is for asking for support or helping fellow users.
- Development is Solus development and packaging. Maintainers call for focused testing, discussions about fixing / testing AppArmor breakage, XFS issue. People testing unstable need to monitor the channel topic to know when NOT to update. etc etc.
- Off-topic is just general chit chat.
