Gnome Nautilus Drag & Drop not working anymore

I used to drag & drop files either between 2 nautilus windows or pdf documents from nautilus to pdfsam.
I used to grab the file with left click in nautilus, then while keeping left mouse pressed, I changed window/application with alt+tab (super+tab in my case ) or super+dead circumflex (switch between windows of same application, nautilus in my case) and dropped the file where I needed it by releasing left mouse button.

This does not work anymore. Bug or feature? Gotta ask this, since it is Gnome 🙈

We were both in that thread (maybe the whole board..). there are workarounds there with keys ^^ that are different than the commands you mentioned that suddenly stopped working. So I am just replying for a short term remedy if one is there..
As for Official knowledge of said problem or Solution in the Works, I cannot answer.

ps--that's about the time I bailed to Mate/Caja before moving on to Nemo. Got no headaches at all in Nemo and more useful features than I had in Nautilus=2 cents.

Sebastian To answer the question, Nautilus 43 went from GTK3 to GTK 4, which means the drag and drop API changed. and the new API is not fully compatible with the old API which many other apps still use. No way around it, unfortunately.

You'd probably love Dolphin, but regrettably, it has no H. G.Wells connection.

EbonJaeger Can´t believe that they keep amputating features of an elsewise good working DE. Psycological speaking, they are full of self-sabotage.
And now, the new API isn´t even compatible to itself, or why can´t you even drag and drop between 2 nautilus windows?

Sebastian I would think you could drag and drop between two Nautilus windows, but with them, lord only knows. Maybe worth checking their issue tracker for that one.

Oh, I just tried that out. You can indeed drag & drop between 2 nautilus windows, if you have them already side to side. You cannot switch to the window with alt/super+whatever while dragging though.

Now I also tested the same thing with nautilus and pdfsam. You can also drag & drop a pdf file from nautilus to pdfsam if you first move the nautilus windows beneath or partly over the pdfsam window so that you can drag & drop the file.

Oh Lord, so now I have to rearrange the windows before I can drag & drop a file.

the headaches seem to mutate with this app.
*on a stranger note I was convinced late last year that Nautilus headaches were not across the board and affected users individually. a laughable notion on the surface but I never heard of ^ this problem before this post and I had a lot of nautilus problems no one else did at the time, too.

Nautilus is a s-show. For me it would lock up the computer when I would copy and paste from one nautilus folder to another until it was finished. I finally gave up and switched to Nemo. Much nicer.

I was told, that this issue does not exist under wayland. So, is it possible to run Gnome Wayland on Solus.
At least I found this package in the repo: gnome-session-shell-experimental (Experimental Wayland Session for Gnome Shell)
