Zim note-taker in repo: broken spell check

auditioning note-taking apps so on to gnote and rednotebook, and simple and others. So long Zim.
This is just FYI for Devs. I've moved on.

pyenchant          - Python language bindings for enchant
libreoffice-voikko - A multi language spellchecker, grammar checker and hyphenator extension for LibreOffice. It uses libvoikko for all linguistic operations.

unless.....these two missing deps are inside a larger package?

Install gtkspell3 for spell check.

installed gtk3spell3.
opened zim. picked up unsaved doc. no underlines, still full of typos.
opened preferences/plugins:

I can click box and one dep is now satisfied.
So closed Zim.
Opened new doc.
typed gibberish:

no underlines or spellcheck.
can try a sys reboot in a few minutes.

algent I just saw this after reboot. "Check Spelling" just showed up in Tools menu pulldown (also activated F7).

As bonus I just updated zim to latest version, you will have it in next sync. 😃

As spell checker plugin there are two options:

gtkspellcheck - which is a python package pygtkspellcheck and it not available at the moment.
gtkspell - which is gtkspell3 and it is available in the repo.
The app needs only one of them for spell checking. If you install them both, then by default the app will use pygtkspellcheck as spell checker and gtkspell will show as FAILED.

These dependencies are optional packages for zim, that is why they are not installed by default.

yes I can't imagine you guys would be indulging in inclusion of all an app's plugins. what a pita🙂
