Vivaldi Browser High CPU Usage!?

So this is still happening after the latest round of updates? (not sure whether your original post was before or after those updates were released)

Depending on whether you want to roll back to before this latest round of updates, or to before the first round of updates after the outage, you might end up with a pretty out-of-date system (in the latter case).

I've also noticed more load on Vivaldi recently (using Fedora). It may be something with the latest Vivaldi updates. What hardware are you using?

What I would suggest to you is to start a new browser profile and check if the CPU load is still an issue.
If not, then it's not a system problem and something on your main profile is causing the extensive CPU usage.
This could be anything in the range browser extensions, history, sync and etc...

PS: If you are 100% sure that the CPU issue is due the latest vivaldi updates, then try to disable the new Workspace functionality:

presianbg I have disabled Workspaces and the issue persists.

It's strange that this is happening because I have not changed anything since before the updates. Things were fine, then the updates came and now I'm having this high CPU usage. : /

edit: I'm not blaming anyone here!! I have to be clear on this. As far as I know it may be a bug with the browser, but i have not found anything on the Vivaldi Forums either.

UPDATE : By the way I posted this on the Vivaldi Linux Forums and I was suggested to disable Mail. I did and now the CPU usage went down. So.. there's something about the Mail.

UPDATE 2 : Apparently it's an issue with Vivaldi Mail. Apparently they know about it and they have already fixed it in the 6.1 Snapshot. As a temporary fix one can Re-index their db. Link here.

Yes, you can downgrade (I have did it in the past), but just to be on the safe side backup (copy) your profile directory. The command is:
sudo eopkg install https://cdn.getsol.us/repo/shannon/v/vivaldi-stable/vivaldi-stable-5.6.2867.58-196-1-x86_64.eopkg

You may pick any available version from here:

presianbg Oh!! Thanks mate! I'll make a note of this for future reference, this way I won't have to spam Solus forum members every time I'm too retarded to fix my own problems. : ))

But at the same time, sometimes being stupid can happen, and it can be a positive thing. If I knew how to downgrade then I wouldn't have posted here which led to me visiting the Vivaldi forums, which means that from now on I will visit more often two awesome communities instead of one. : )
