seanragout Nope, to my knowledge they are almost exclusively used with Debian based systems. Although I do believe that PCLinuxOS uses Synaptic and apt even though the packages themselves are rpm based. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong?
MintSpider seanragout I use PCLinuxOS and you are correct. The distro uses apt4rpm and a customised apt-get for rpm use. The version of synaptic they use was designed for this purpose. It all sounds weird, but works just fine. As a user you really don't see any difference when using synaptic. More information here: https://pclinuxoshelp.com/index.php/Installing_Software
seanragout MintSpider That is right, PCLinuxOS has been around a while now, almost forgot. Its a deceptive little distro isn't it, no bells or whistles that I can see, but quietly plodding along with a fairly good community last time I looked, wasn't it based on Mandrake or something similar back in the day?
MintSpider seanragout Yes, forked from Mandrake. From: https://itsfoss.com/pclinuxos-review/ Back in 2000, Bill Reynolds (also known as Texstar) created a series of packages to improve Mandrake Linux, which later became Mandriva Linux. PCLinuxOS first became a separate distro in 2003 when Texstar forked Mandrake. He said that he made the move because he wanted “to provide an outlet for my crazy desire to package source code without having to deal with egos, arrogance and politics”.
10leej Yes and no, but there is no native solution. you can install docker or podman and use a tool like distrobox, but I think your rather wanting a graphical software manager for Solus, if thats thecase wahts wrong with the software center?
Brucehankins I'd just be happy with a little prettying up of eopkg. Nala is much better than apt, pacman, for it's syntax faults, is better than a lot of package managers, and zypper.... well you need to be a special person to really love that.
