toddlyons With Solus rebasing onto Serpent OS, will Solus retain its desktop-focused kernel?

Hi. Serpent OS Dev and Solus Team Member here.

The short answer is "Yes".

The slightly longer answer (related to Solus 5.x/V) is that, as developers of Serpent OS, we will dogfood Serpent OS on our desktop systems and will likely build a specifically tuned desktop kernel for that purpose.

The Solus 4.x release series will obviously retain its current desktop-focused kernel configuration in the interrim, with the expectation being that both the Solus 4.x desktop kernel config and the in-development Serpent OS desktop kernel config will -- over time -- begin sharing specific settings and patches related to performance and responsiveness under load in desktop use cases (they share the same three kernel maintainers).

Once the Solus Team decides that the time is right to rebase onto Serpent OS for Solus 5.x/V, I would expect the two desktop kernel configurations to be essentially identical.

HTH.

I'm so excited to get back on the ship. Can't wait for the new isos. Solus is by far the fastest distro to boot.

SOLUSfiddler nice to see you, sir. I kept up with this mini-trainwreck since january but didn't want to create extra accounts as bad as i wanted to speak! Overhaul is right. I'm excited.

Looking forward to a prosperous future for #Solus 😃

Really happy about this amazing news !

By the way, do you plan to integrate nvidia optimus? It's a must have for laptops with hybrid graphics.

A great big thank you to EVERYONE who made this happen, so so glad Solus isnt going anywhere except onwards and upwards.
Feels a little strange writing in the forum after so long away, nice to see familiar names and just BE a part of the community again.
I like all the exciting possibilities that seem to be comming along, SOLUS ROCKS

Though I won't be returning to work on Solus now that I've found a home in Budgie and Arch, I'm very glad to see that Solus will continue under the stewardship of those that I worked alongside in the past. Best of luck to all of you!

hello guys, nice to see Solus "coming back to life" !

Nice to see that the ship is sailing again.

I read the New vision for Solus Seems a Good plan I think the right ppl are at the helm again
Even tho I went over to the darkside again Will monitor till solus stable again I still got it on couple machines
But I put them in the closet...lol
Solus is one those strange distros that does something to a person...lol
I was lerking keeping up on things..haha

Its great to see Solus sail again. I was on the the edge of changing distro coming weekend ( EndevourOS, siduction, Rhino Linux or nix was on the plate) , but I'm happy not to do this since I got better things to do. Like life. And understading rust 🙂

Great news! Will be reinstalling once the new iso comes out. Have been on Ultramarine Budgie for a bit and while it is good, it's not Solus. So glad I kept my Open Collective donations going.

Nothing is Solus, except Solus. Fortunately, some other distros have come close, so I haven't been affected a whole lot. I kept Open Collective going as well. Figured I'd give it 6 months before giving up on it.

looking forward to Solus V! goodluck
