I couldn't have said it better. I've always known what hibernate does, but I could always use the computer with a decent workflow without setting up hibernate, so I never bothered with it. But I used Sparky Linux mostly during the Solus downtime, and its installer offered to install a swap and activate hibernate, so I used it there, and pretty much got hooked.
When I installed Solus this time, I created the partitions manually in order to get a swap bigger than 4 GB. (I created one that's 18 GB, since this laptop has 16 GB of RAM). And instead of using the whole 500 GB SSD for Solus, I made the root partition just 250 GB and left the unallocated space for some future project.
So, after all these years, I'm using hibernate for the first time with Solus, and I'm lovin' it;. No more leaving a bunch of machines running 24/7, sometimes for days. I'm sure my electric bill will love it.
