Glad to hear this still has a place in your heart. It's lovely. I've seen "Files" used for different apps, but one way to know is Help or About in the context/app menu. Most of the time when I try stuff the app is not named in the title bar.
**could not find file manager app at ultra wiki or distrowatch package list. someone will know

zmaint I thought about downloading the ISO myself when I have time.

An excellent idea! I'm trying not to be the only one who comes up with new distros to examine here. I'd love to hear what you have to say about Vanilla OS.

WetGeek Just went there to download it, read some more... Based on Ubuntu, Gnome desktop... both of those are non-starters for me. I'll pass on the rigid janky bloat thank you!

Ubuntu is a good distro, but I know what you mean about GNOME. If that were the only DE available from it, I wouldn't explore it either. Yet, some think the GNOME DE is the best thing since hot sauce. Maybe one of them would like to give it a try?

I think that Gnome is the only DE available from Vanilla OS. Vanilla's claim to fame is that the OS is "an immutable operating system", meaning that the core parts of the system are locked down to prevent unwanted changes and corruption from third-party applications or a faulty update. Based on the few reviews available, it doesn't look like Vanilla OS is ready for prime time yet.

WetGeek Well the 'Buntu "experience" was soooo good it drove me to distro hop until I found Solus, which is where I've been ever since.

I said Ubuntu is a good distro. I didn't say it was better than Solus.

Ubuntu has PPAs to break the system with. Solus doesn't offer that luxury.

[deleted] Ubuntu has PPAs to break the system

The Free Dictionary has 129 possible meanings for this acronym. Yours must be #130.

zmaint bunsen has a mechanism to prevent PPA/multiverse/universe addition making bullseye the only repos. that's what the terminal errors basically tell me when I tried

                WetGeek

Personal Package Archives (PPAs) are software repositories designed for Ubuntu users and are easier to install than other third-party repositories.

                https://help.ubuntu.com/stable/ubuntu-help/addremove-ppa.html.en

zmaint I think they're a bit different in that Arch is bleeding edge and Ubuntu is more behind. Some people use PPAs to circumvent that release model to get newer versions of software and that may quickly cause some trouble by pulling newer dependencies etc. which may not be compatible with something else.

I lost my mind few days ago went on a wild download spree of linux DE
