No Sound after last upgrade ( except if using vlc )

Hi,
I've no sound any more on my Transformer Book Asus, System setting detects no Audio device

But if I run VLC and select manually Audio / chrt5645, Default Audio Device I can play normally Video and Audio files.
NB : Sound worked OK on this device since Solus 3.9999 and everything was ok since I restarted it after upgrade

Here is my hardware

I've downloaded the lastest Live USB, Sound runs perfectly with the Live USB, Audio Output device is present named 'Speaker-Built-in Audio' and Audio test Left / Right is ok.

I made a fresh install, the sound works perfect but Solus asks for 526 upgrades including alsa-lib, alsa-plugins, alas-utils...

You don't have the driver installed.

See on Live what it is and install it after Solus update

I leaved as the upgrade still not finished at 2h15 in the morning ...
The upgrade made no issues, sound is still works ok ...
I look at what I've installed and made only one installation that could make sound problem : Bingo !

Vivaldi-stable seems to be the source of the problem :
If I install only one app : vivaldi-stable ( + ffmpeg chromium for h.264 ) and run vivaldi it says 'no Audio please restart le computer' no sound at all even with after the reboot.
No sound but VLC still runs OK if select manually Audio / chrt5645, Default Audio Device

As the kernel of Solus is quite old 5.15, I've installed RedHat 9 which has the same kernel ( I've 16 licences using 4 )
I've installed on it Vivaldi it works perfect with html5 and no sound issues ...

I'm reinstalling Solus Fortitude to try another way to install Vivaldi

So, you installed vivaldi AFTER doing a full upgrade, correct? (Because only installing one particular app and it's dependencies after a fresh installation will most definitely cause problems)

Correct but I confirm the PB is due to Vivaldi-stable :
I made 3 Solus full install :

2 failed with vivaldi-stable
the last one sound is still OK as I used Vivaldi Snapshot.

Oups ! I can't say now as The new install erased all the disk and the Transformer Book runs perfect now...
If it happens again I will post it ( I will install a lot of think now via a perso .sh I will see soon )

My installation included eopkg install -y vivaldi-stable then 2 vivaldi browsers and no sound anymore..

That's because pulseaudio is a user-level service (IE it runs under your user account) and you need to use the --user flag with systemctl to see. For example systemctl --user status pulseaudio (NO sudo).

ReillyBrogan Off topic but thanks for clarifying why sometimes service on/off does not work even with sudo. that makes sense and I will try that with --user flag. I have a sense of guilt from too much un-necessary sudo systemctl now...

Yes I used effectivly :

Super User Mode ( su only, never sudo )
systemctl --user enable pulseaudio.service
systemctl --user restart pulseaudio.service

User Mode
pulseaudio --kill
pulseaudio --start

But I stopped trying anything more ....

I had the backlight issues I made with alacarte 4 commands for 25%, 50%, 75%, 95% backlight ( I asked to Ikey to fix it but just before He lived Solus ) then I kept my 4 Icones on Icon Task List
Now I've Sound Issues 😅 its time for forget Solus on my 3 Transformer Book ( sad )

I've simply installed Elementary-OS Sound, Backlight, ... are all OK ( Not Rolling and the terminal is purely ugly )
I'll keep Elementary-OS for test ( kernel 5.11 )

Otherwise, if not happy I will install ArcoLinux Budgie DE which works absolutly perfect on my PC ( Rolling, kernel 6.0.8 but no python 2.7 that is a problem for me )

Of course I keep my others Solus on more classical hardware ( PC & Laptop ) 😀 .

That's not what I asked though. I asked if there were any error messages from pulseaudio in the logs which we could potentially use to debug the issue. Have you also tried switching to pipewire to see if that helps the issue at all?

Hum ... Elementary-OS is running OK for the moment on my Transformer Books ...
I will wait for Solus to runs on Kernel 6.xx with pipewire to check again ... because I'm on holiday and I just want to use my T102HA to read Docs, watch Mooc & Movies ( T102HA has 10 hours autonomy that's why )

So Happy ! I can use my ASUS Tranformer Books with Solus again !

For info I reinstalled Solus Fortitude + Budgie DE for test 4 days ago.

With the last updates : everything works Perfect on my Tranformer Books , Bluetooth, Touchscreen, ... ( no Freeze also )
Then I will installed Solus on the others TFB.

Still having the Backlight issue but since Solus 3.9999 I made ' buttons using alacarte with scripts for 25% 50% 75% 99% of Backlight ( /usr/bin/xrandr --output $DisplaySource --brightness $BrightnessLevel ) if you have an idea ...
