Hi there, I use Budgie with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 Ti and booted the live iso 2 days ago without having a problem to fresh install Solus. The Problem only started after the install, because I needed the beta drivers for my system to work properly. Any chance of getting better results if you would try another Desktop environment ISO, e.g. Gnome? Then you could switch to Budgie once you get your Solus up and running.

    The fact that the ISO seems to cooperate with @Goldhahn 's 3060 Ti but not with @TIny-Hacker 's 3060 is a great illustration of why ISOs are difficult to put together. The team has to test with lots of different hardware variations to see where stuff breaks.

      infinitymdm Sorry for segueing a little bit here, but I always wondered... why am I able to boot the live ISO easily but getting a blackscreen after the post-install reboot? Sometimes Nvidia is just a hassle...

      But @TIny-Hacker, you should definitely try out the other DE ISOs. I mean, it's worth a try.

          Goldhahn not entirely sure. If it worked in the ISO, it should work after install... But I digress. If you can get to a terminal, you can update via sudo eopkg up.

          If you need additional help, start a new thread with all the details and we'll get to work troubleshooting.

              infinitymdm Thank you, but my system is already running. Had to chroot into my machine and install the beta drivers. That was 3 days ago. 😅 It was more a question out of curiosity. So, sorry again.

                infinitymdm Yes, sudo eopkg up should work. The only issue was that the filesystem of the live ISO is too small, so it was impossible for me to update it. I will try other DE ISOs and let you all know how it goes 🙂

                    TIny-Hacker Updating won't help you in the live ISO.

                    Do I understand correctly that you have access to the Terminal? Then you should give my suggestion a try I wrote some year and a half. You find it here.

                        Goldhahn Thanks, this sounds promising! I tried to follow the steps, however, I ran into an error when installing the package:

                        Could not fetch destination file "https://mirrors.rit.edu/solus/packages/shannon/e/egl-wayland/egl-wayland-1.1.7-10-1-x86_64.eopkg": [Errno 14] HTTPS Error 404 - Not Found

                        Any ideas?

                            TIny-Hacker Hmmm. Strange. This package really doesn't exist... Does this error also occur, when you run sudo eopkg it nvidia-beta-driver?

                            If it doesn't help, I am out of options as well. Hopefully, there is a new ISO on Friday.

                              TIny-Hacker After connecting to network, run sudo eopkg up first, then follow the rest of @Goldhahn 's instructions. You're probably running on an out-of-date eopkg index

                                  infinitymdm Like I said earlier, not enough storage to run sudo eopkg up. I need to get the live ISO working to install, then fix the installed version.

                                      TIny-Hacker To update the index, you need to run sudo eopkg update-repo or sudo eopkg ur for short. This way, you shouldn't fill up your storage with unnecessary updates and you can also try my workaround again.

                                        Thanks! sudo eopkg ur allowed me to successfully install the drivers. However, startx throws a bunch of errors and then quits. Still no DE.

                                          TIny-Hacker This is to be expected. I even wrote it on my post back then. Just wait until xorg quits and then switch back to TTY7.

                                              Goldhahn Oh, okay. Sorry, I think I missed that.

                                              Edit: Still didn't work. It threw an error related to not being able to run in framebuffer mode, then couldn't connect to X server. Switching to TTY7 is just an empty screen with a blinking cursor at the top, and TTY1 (The screen it was on initially when booting up) is the same as well.

                                                What about nvidia-beta-driver Did you try that package as well? After that point, I am out of ideas really 😅

                                                  Goldhahn Realized I never got around to responding, so I figured I would now. None of the packages ended up working, so I guess I'll just wait for a new ISO. Thanks for the help everyone 🙂

                                                      TIny-Hacker You could try the older Solus-4.2-Budgie.iso then install the correct nvidia drivers and then update to the latest Solus version via the update center.
