Catchy Plasma - Observations, cont.
With an hour to spare, I decided to continue with my examination of this very interesting distribution. The first thing I needed to do was either get rid of that default background, or arrest it for felony dark theming.
I did take a spin through the system settings, and set those to reasonable values, including adding a total of eight workspaces. Then I edited the bottom panel to add a pager, and rearrange things according to my host laptop. Editing that panel was easier than on any other Plasma panel I've ever configured, including my laptop.
I haven't yet figured out what package manager to use in the terminal, so I used the Add Remove Software GUI to add a few necessities. I tried to add the micro editor, but it was already present. Then I tried to add nfs-utils, but that was already present as well. Just when I was beginning to believe that everything I wanted was already installed, I tried installing terminology, and that worked. Vivaldi-stable was in the repository, as was Thunderbird.
That's about when my luck changed. As I started to configure Thunderbird by adding my email address, I discovered that Thunderbird wasn't accepting any input from my keyboard. Wondering if it might be allergic to my Bluetooth keyboard, I tried typing on the host laptop's keyboard, and that didn't work either.
And things didn't get any better after that. I launched Vivaldi and got nowhere with that, either. The first thing I normally do with Vivaldi is to add Lastpass, so I can fetch my Vivaldi password and do a sync. But I couldn't install the Lastpass extension, because Vivaldi wouldn't accept any keyboard input, either.
Earlier I had tried to access my NAS via smb in Dolphin, but it couldn't locate it. That's when I tried to configure Thunderbird, because I knew I could send myself an email containing two text files that would allow me to continue configuring Catchy, but as I said, that was impossible. By now, I'm really ready to retire for the evening, and I'll work on the keyboard input issue in the morning.
