Numerous issues after latest update.

I've noticed a few things:

-The aforementioned theming/Nautilus issues in Budgie
-Global Menu applet no longer works
-Logging in while having an internet connection adds another 20 seconds or so to my boot time. Typically I see a cursor, then bam desktop instantly. After last update, I see only my wallpaper for about 20 seconds before I reach the desktop. Disabling wifi fixes this.
-Setting wallpaper from nautilus no longer works
-Gnome-based right click menus broken, they appear "in pieces" at the bottom
-This journalctl error: systemd[943]: Failed to start BAMF Application Matcher Framework.

Regarding Global Menu:
After the latest update the Global Menu applet (available in the repos under Budgie extras section) does not work as intended. This menu shown in screenshot is all I see no matter which window is in focus.

I know this is a third party applet but I know of many others that use it on Solus so I can't be the only one. I could not find the developer to submit an issue so hopefully this finds them.
Before this issue, there was another that started years ago, where selecting "use bold application name" option in Budgie Panel settings caused the entry all the way to the right to become bold instead of the application name to the left. I settled with just disabling the bold option but the issue persists years later.
But now, this issue is a real problem because I have no menu bar in certain applications for example GIMP. Typically, using Global Menu sends the menu bar seen in the program itself up top in the panel. Removing Global Menu from the panel doesn't bring the menu bar back until I log back in. Plus, removing Global Menu then adding it again in panel options, causes all Budgie related windows to freeze for like a good 30 seconds. I think Budgie and GNOME are just not getting along lately, idk.
I'm bringing this up because Global Menu was sort of the icing on the cake for my desktop. Without it there's an ugly blank space in my top bar and make the UI I have set up weirdly.
In case it helps narrow down I'll detail how I have my desktop configured. Basically a docked icon task list on the left, and a global menu on the top panel the the left, with the system tray icons and clock to the right. So basically MacOS knockoff made using Budgie applets. Kept the same defaults and settings from since Plata was default theme. Switched from Pulse to Pipewire so I actually have sound. But everything else vanilla, no tweaks.

(I made this post initially because I saw Global Menu didn't work (hense why it was the focus of most of this post) but while working it out I ran into the several other issues that are listed above. My head hurts now and I am wary for the stability my desktop..)

Third party applet I believe, but it still happens:

To replicate, I open 2 apps let's say gedit and terminal. If gedit is in focus and I close it putting terminal in focus, the one on the right becomes bold. It's a tiny harmless bug but I still notice it.

there's a couple threads about the new Nautius issue. plus some workarounds that didn't work for me.

See the word "name" in your first picture? My "name" is just a sickening barely-legible fraction of that size...

....so my question to you is what is your widget/icon combo? Mine is korla/yaru. If my aggravatingly tiny barely-legible nautilus font is due to theming, then there may be hope.

brent yeah that's what "aforementioned" was in reference to, my nautilus and calculator were appearing in light theme, and opening gnome-control-center via terminal and changing appearance to dark there fixed it.
My theme is plata-noir-compact, icons are papirus and notably i changed the fonts from Noto to Cantarell and used 1 size larger than default (GNOME's default font) forgot to mention this when i said i did no "tweaks" oops. Interface font and document font is Cantarell Regular 10. Monospace font is Liberation Mono regular. I once used Hack (Solus default) but recently it started making the terminal font look too "square", as if it was more vertical than it should have been. Liberation Mono and Hack and Noto mono once looked identical, now only Liberation looks like the OG hack did.
(both cantarell-fonts and liberation-fonts-ttf are available in eopkg repos)
I know its not a bug but just the way it is now, but I really hate not being able to resize that sidebar/panel in Nautilus. Typically i resize the entire Nautilus window and that sidebar all the way down to their smallest. Now it looks bulky and strange no matter what..
This photo is Nautilus on my Arch system, which is still on Gnome 42, and also how it looked on Solus Budgie before this update. Uses Adwaita Dark and Papirus icons and Cantarell 10. I expect to get those terrible Nautilus 43 updates on Arch soon, it's definitely not the fault of Solus. In a perfect world my Nautilus would stay looking like this forever lol

our font sizes roughly the same, plus 'scaling' in budgie desktop settings does nothing for the tiny NAME etc. still playing with themes but that crap of mine looks fixed at 1pt up there.
Nothing diff. about my side panel.
Verdict? " I think Budgie and GNOME are just not getting along lately, idk."
Why make an app worse? is my response🙂.

When I test your font meme on my PC those little "name size type modified" etc sorting options are changed by the Interface Font option along with everything else, at least on Arch changing the theme with GNOME Tweaks. (I'm currently on my Arch system which is running an encoding job so I cant currently reboot back into Solus to check) If the font there changes too but is just small all the time, then yeah idk that's a genuine mystery. Or a past custom config interfering or a random bug no idea..For what it's worth the way you have it now looks god, at least the smaller text is at the top-left making it look like a fancy heading. Maybe find a way to set all theme related stuff to their defaults then go step by step? Don't know if that's possible

I usually shy away from posting things or making accounts anywhere but I like Solus greatly and want to contribute even if that means simply interacting with the community. I have an IT degree but it was basic stuff lol. If I were more skilled I'd offer to do testing or maintaining but really my Linux knowledge doesn't go much further than desktop related daily things such as this. I couldn't tell you what a single line of code means but I can speedrun install Arch and merge a pacnew or 2 😆 😆

AWESOME thank you, will try that next. (There's was no interference of past reference of this tiny font; it was the direct result of last night's update.)

I'll take a look at the vala-panel-appmenu issue tomorrow. Hopefully it just needs to be rebuilt, tho I do see that BAMF has a minor update; not sure if it might be related.

EbonJaeger Ah, didn't see your message. I tried updating bamf and rebuilding vala-panel-appmenu but unfortunately had no success with it. I'm also not 100% sure how it is supposed to work, but I just get the same result as mentioned in the first post even after the rebuilds. But you seem to have more experience with that applet.

Btw, there seem to be some interesting changes adding Budgie Desktop Settings and Budgie Control Center support in their repository.

I identified an issue with libwnck causing bamfdaemon to break, which in turn caused vala-panel-appmenu and plank to break. Fixes have been pushed to Unstable; don't know when they'll get to build because qt5-webengine is building at the time of writing, and it takes a loong time lol

This is a long-standing issue with gtk4/libadwaita, sadly
