rick0612 Just tried it on a spare laptop and it went to the desktop. Perhaps it is just my desktop PC setup? What are your thoughts?
Based on what you are reporting, the issue sounds like an incompatibility between Solus Plasma 4.3's Live install and the Nvidia GTX 1070. KDE is not similar to any of the other Gnome-based DE's (Budgie, Gnome, Mate), a VM masks hardware issues in many cases, and your spare laptop probably has a different GPU setup, all of which might account for the differences you report.
I did about a half hour's research into black screen, KDE and the GTX 1070 and found numerous issues reported, all with other distros, but none of that research yielded anything worth reporting other than to try nomodeset as a possible workaround.
I do not personally use Nvida at all any more, but I hope that NVIDIA experts will comment quickly.
rick0612 Would love to try Solus but I am partial to KDE.
Solus Plasma is a superb KDE implementation. I use it as do many, many others in this forum. If you are just trying out Solus to see if it is a distro you might be interested in using going forward, you might work with the implementations in your VM or on your spare laptop for a while to see if Solus Plasma is worth pursuing.
