murbert Why can't the program be dropped into a folder where it integrates into the system, like in Mac?

I'd really like to see someone who understands .eopkg files write a utility that will convert a .deb file to an .eopkg file. Just about everything one could want is either in our repository, or it's released as a .deb.

It should just be an issue of copying the contents to their respective destinations, no? Or is it much more complicated than that?

Axios that thread was good that you posted: @Solarmass confirmed that the Flatpak was no bueno--I thought that was the last chance....until the poster at the very end got it working by compiling the targz with success.

murbert I think that's the nature of the beast with appimage. Sometimes I will get right-click run and sometimes I won't. Sometimes doubleclick is good. And so many times, you are right, you get something you want and it can't be opened.

Axios I read it all and it went from 3.5 floppy to python scripts and a fake XP emulator with VM---old school but 3,000 steps...and he insisted this was the only way...fun read though.

WetGeek the targz was the way. Congrats on your prints. Amazing when you look at history that far back. Do you remember why you were there? who you were with? what car you drove? Old pictures have a way of transporting. A toast to your persistence this late Thurdsday.

I think I made some progress. I started with the .tgz file, and managed to get the app started. Still got some tinkering to do, but at least I'm getting somewhere.

Finally! While it was up and running, I converted the equivalent of 5 rolls of film to .png images. These are of questionable quality, but 25 years ago I took this shot of the south jetty at Ocean Shores, WA.

Digital photography sure has come a long way since then. (To be honest, this was shot on film, and the digital images printed from the negatives. Not shot with a digital camera.)

By the way, XnViewMP is a really impressive tool. I just wish it were easier to install on Solus!

I am surprised solus doesnt have xnview in repo seems to be common in alot the other distros.

If anyone else here is as new to this AppImage stuff as I am, you might be interested in browsing this repository of available applications that are available this way. With any luck, you'll find something that you're interested in, and it will actually work.

That guy moved heaven and earth to copy his A:/ drives. If it wasn't for the different ways to do things, I'd never learn🙂. It's proprietary and maybe someday will get Third Party inclusion. Maybe the Flatpak version works, don't know.
