i3 lock on budgie?

Is it possible to use i3 lock on solus budgie? If yes, please help with the steps involved.

While I don't know how to completely replace gnome-screensaver (so the UI buttons would launch i3lock), I have installed i3lock and set a hotkey to launch it.

I also tried it... But it is not showing the blurred effect... It is only showing blank white screen..

kshady The i3lock in the Solus repos is the basic one from i3wm.org, to get more color settings and blur effects (automatically) you need the i3lock-color or i3lock-fancy forks (on GitHub). Somehow the Solus i3lock was using the i3lock-color fork a while back but it was reverted because the maintainer's patch was bad. There's also i3lock-fancy in the repo, but it's inactive.... I've been meaning to look into that for a while now. 😥

I'm not accepting multiple i3lock forks in the repository, as per my notes here. i3lock-color was intended to replace i3lock directly (changing the source), however it had segfaults and memory leaks, so I reverted it.

Either way, using i3lock with Budgie is not supported. The officially supported screenlocker is budgie-screensaver, a fork of gnome-screensaver. This was originally done because GNOME effectively refused maintainership offers by Ikey of gnome-screensaver, they wanted to kill it instead. For Budgie 11 I'd rather lock be integrated directly into the window manager.

JoshStrobl Sorry, I didn't mean i3lock-fancy, but rather I've been meaning to check on how i3lock-color is doing. FWIW, I just compiled 2.12.c and it's working fine, as tested by running the lock.sh script included in the repo. I ran it through memcheck with full leak check and it lost under 1KB after letting it sit a while before entering my password, which seems reasonable to me.
