So I've been curious about the state of Wayland and how it would run with Solus in the unofficial capacity. So far, it seems to be running fine, except for following Kwin scripts. On X, I set up the Kwin script of my choice through the settings, click apply, and I'm off to the races with automatic tiling. With Wayland, even though my settings are the same, when I open a new window there seems to be a 95% chance it won't tile and just open in the middle of the screen. If I minimize said window and then make it active again, it will follow the tiling script. I've tried launching the applications with the toolbar, the applications menu, krunner, and through the terminal, but they just don't seem to tile automatically on open. Has anyone else noticed similar behavior?
Overall, the experience seems to be fine, I honestly don't notice much of a difference between X and Wayland with my set up. Animations seem just as smooth, transitions and effects seem about the same. I am only using 1080 and a 15.6" laptop screen though. Maybe things would be more obvious with a higher res display. I haven't used it enough to really test the battery life claims others have made yet.
Also curious to see what other Plasma users who have or are testing Wayland think. I know it's not officially supported yet and the packages are for testing, but overall I'm impressed with the progress.
