wingman-4 You may well have been on a train pulled by #82, and you almost certainly rode behind a Sandley locomotive at the Zoo. Although #82 came back to the museum in the 1980's (it was too small to handle the loads that the Zoo ran after a while) the Milwaukee County Zoo has run custom-built Sandley locomotives throughout its history and continues to run two larger Atlantic steam engines built by Sandley at the present time.
Besides the museum, I think that the Zoo is the only public facility that still runs Sandley equipment these days. Of the 19 known locomotives that Sandley built, we have seven at the museum (two just came to us this Spring through the University of Texas foundation), the Zoo has two, seven are owned by private collectors, and three are lost.
Kids just love those little trains, almost as much as cookies. The kids' excitement are what keep us all volunteering.
