Hello. I can't copy files to usb media. I got an error message saying permission not granted. I don't know how to open a window as administrator.

That message means that you're trying to access something that doesn't belong to you, or doesn't belong to a group you belong to. It's not entirely clear what you don't have permission for.

Are you sure that you own the files you want to copy? Is the flash drive one you have accerss to (have you written to it before)? If these answers are both "yes," you should not have gotten this error.

Is the flash drive mounted in a file manager? Is that what's generating the error? If so, you may be able to launch the file manager from the terminal, using the sudo command to elevate your credentials to run it as root.

Alternatively, some file managers have a "Run as root" option available in their menus. Have you looked for that?

You could also change ownership of the USB with chown. If you open a terminal from the usb directory and run ls -l it should show you who "owns" the directory and what "group" its in. To permanently change this, run chown -R USER:GROUP /usb/directory. Of course, you'll need to replace user and group with your username and group as well as the /usb/directory with your directory or path.

Yes, usually the problem is that the USB is mounted on behalf of the administrator and need to change the user. After that, access is granted.

I was on linux mint. I could open a window, right click and choose open as administrator. With solus, I don't have this option. So I couldn't format or copy any file in my usb media because it requires root permission. But it's settled now. I knew how to do it.

I know you have already solved your issue, but in case anyone is interested, there is a way to do this in Solus Plasma, if you download the "Open as root" service.
