I need to use qt4 to install Bernese, I try to compile the qt4 software using qt source code, but the system default gcc version is too high and the compilation fails, how can I get GCC that does not exceed the gcc-7 version

----this is the stuff you need. their files are clearly marked 3/2021. So if Solus has qt5 and they are saying you have to go back in time to compile with qt4 only...your question is simply how do I make this work?
I don't know🙁. But I'm spitballin. Only two things come to mind. 1) I wonder if there is a qt bridge or --devel package in repo that would be accepted?
Research on Bernese linux install is sketchy. 2) Qt4 still exists (although I couldn't find it at qt website) but I've seen some 3rd party downloads...so the question for me is "can qt4 be installed, and live happily with, qt5 on Solus without interfering with anything?"
That ^^ is worthy of a search engine search for sure. Don't do much compiling myself, so hopefully you get a better answer than mine. very cool app.

I know, that was very clear in your post, and I made it equally clear that I knew this in my response to you. I also wondered if one could install qt4 alongside qt5 with no repercussions? What did your research tell you regarding this situation?

brent Of course, qt4 and qt5 will not affect each other. For example, various gcc versions can exist in the Linux system without affecting each other. I have installed qt4 in archlinux, debian system and other linux distributions, but I need the bottom version of GCC to compile successfully

timespace ah I missed the fine print in first post: I was all about the deprecated qt---you need deprecated gcc-7. And I see gcc-7 (you said "not to exceed" 7) available to download at many websites (in duck duck) so finding it is not an issue, it appears**. This time I won't ask if it will co-exist with current gcc-11X🙂.

edit: **doublechecked again so I'm not mistaken. Lots of .debs, yes, but at gcc.gnu I see tar.gz of every version for download..

I would have never guessed this is what you were really getting at...I obviously don't compile much.
I don't know anything about how to make this work. Someone might.

edit: another useless crazy idea....how does an individual go about making their own homemade DIY standalone app? (i.e. flatpak, appimage). Can it be done?
