Just for comparison, here's Ubuntu Budgie:
The htop heading for my Ubuntu Budgie VM doesn't quite tell the whole story. I was having lots of fun exploring the distro, and for the most part was able to find what I needed without any trouble. As with the other distros, I added my bashrcAdditions to bash, modified /etc/fstab and connected to my NAS, configured Thunderbird, and installed and configured Vivaldi.
The latter is where I ran into my first disapointment. As part of configuring Vivaldi, I install LastPass, make appropriate settings changes, and do a sync. The sync puts 49 shortcuts on my start page. Finally, I launch each of those 49 sites and create 8 "named tab stacks", or categories, such as Financial, Forums, News ... and so on.
By the time I had added about 35 or so tabs, things started to slow down. By 40, I needed to pause after each tab was added to its stack, and wait until the laptop's fan slowed down. Until then, the UI was completely frozen. Even a mouse click did nothing.
Eventualy I did get the task done, and the tab stacks all work well. I'm wriitng this from the Solus Forum tab in the Forums tab stack. When I create these VMs, the recommended video memory to set aside is 16 Mb. I always change that to 32 Mb, hoping to avoid this sort of situation. Until now, that's always worked.
Other than that experience, I've really enjoyed working with Ubudgie. It's very polished, for sure. This is one of just two VMs that I plan to work with for an entire day, taking the place of my laptop. (The other is Ultramarine Budgie.) That's why I've configured it a little more completely than most of the VMs I create.
