Internet Download Manager equivalent

I download videos from all over the web using IDM. What would be the best approximation under Solus (free or not) or Firefox extension?

Or otherwise recommended download manager?

I've never had youtube-dl fail at any site or time out and I scrounge everywhere. Granted it's not a flashy gui tool, but always effective.

AlternativeTo will definitely make transitioning out much easier.

I'm only counting a couple of niche programs left to where I feel comfortable doing most things I already do in Solus nearly exclusively. The main bases are pretty well covered now.

There kget and uget on Solus repository, maybe you can try it :

Firefox Extension Video DownloadHelper by mig works but only if you also install the Companion App.

Jumpy Video Download Helper is about 40% succesful for me and I won't install/pay for the bloatware companion app. At least when it fails you can right click the icon and 'copy url' so you can paste it right into a functioning video download app like youtube-dl.🙂 Despite its limitations, once you know the places you can use it, then it's money, so to speak.

You can find some youtube-dl GUI too, like this one (AppImage) or that one (flapak).

There is also XDM Download Manager. https://sourceforge.net/p/xdman/blog/2018/03/how-to-install-xdm-on-any-linux-distribution/
It has a new 8 version with gtk ui that doesn't seem to have a solus version yet: https://github.com/subhra74/xdm/releases/tag/8.0.29. Otherwise, as said above: uget. Kget is not in fact an equivalent of IDM, because it lacks the essential feature: multithread download.

Are any of these appreciable better than yt-dlp?

riffer I don't think anything is better that yt-dlp as long you can use the --list-formats and --trim-filenames arguments because you will need them. I used to love a downloads GUI but most buggy for me.
