tomscharbach As far as I know, the two drives (M2 and 2.5") are independent of each other.
Actually doesn't matter much in my case. This Latitude has only a 500GB M.2 SATA drive There's neither a "hard drive," nor is there anywhere to put it. It's a much thinner case than my wife's Latitude, and I suspect that was one of their decisions that helped make it thinner.
Yeah, UPS showed up a day early with the new computer, and I'm writing this from it now. I have a lot more setup to do, but I've done that so many times I could almost do it in my sleep.
Updating all the firmware and BIOS was not an issue. After installing Windows, a dialog appeared on the desktop encouraging me to update the DELL software. Naturally I clicked the button to do that. Because there is no 2.5" disk (or a 2.5" SATA bay and connector), I was left with installing Plasma on the original SSD.
Fortunately, the Plasma live USB drive booted without a problem, and the installation likewise went just fine. I still need to configure Thunderbird, and begin re-creating my VMs. I hope this time the shortcuts that VBox creates will actually show up on the desktop.
This thing flies, compared with the Precision. What a difference a few years makes, eh?
EDIT: Now that this is my daily driver, I think I'll put a blank SSD in the Precision and try to get Windows installed, just for the purpose of updating the BIOS and firmware. Since there was no way to swap SSDs, as I'd planned, that seems to be the only option now. I find it odd that DELL sells Precisions with a couple of Linux options, but Windows is needed to do the DELL updates. Go figure!
