How Do I Make a WebP Video in Linux?

Hi,

I want to convert two segments of an .mp4 file into .webp videos. I have experimented with the online converter EZGIF and found it amazing how much smaller .webp videos are, compared to .gif. However, this online tool has a limitation for videos' duration.

The question is - what Linux tool can be used to make .webp videos? I have tried Kdenlive - it can only render to .gif, not .webp.

Didnt try it but it does have some webp encoders in its list

I was wrong on that it list webp encoders but doesnt do it looked in shotcut you can export to
webp animated

I guess you could try to use GIMP since it supports exporting files in webp format, I made few nice gif animations with it but I've never really used webp and have no time at the moment to try so you gotta check this out yourself. Cheers.

PS: Kdenlive appears to have webp export option though(?)

niobleoum Kdenlive only can export to webp as a series of stills.

I was wrong on above post videosmass showed webp encoder but didnt list when converting
But looked in shotcut you can export to webp animated

Maybe:

ffmpeg -i input_filename.mp4 -vcodec libwebp -filter:v fps=fps=20 -lossless 1 -loop 0 -preset default -an -vsync 0 -s 800:600 output_filename.webp

pomon, thank you, but what complicates things is - I need to cut out two segments from the original video.

noise617 Ya I like shotcut they work very hard at developing it and trying to keep it current.
And we all know that isnt easy nowdays.
