It happens off and on with my Solus/Budgie installation:
I right-click a file and get shown the wrong default application for opening it although I'm 100% sure that I selected and saved the correct one for it in the past.

I believe it sometimes happens after updates, and all you have to do is:

Right-click the file you want to open,
select the correct application for it and open it with that application.

From then on the files will be connected to the correct default application again.

if you got it from solus updates--or something I inadvertrently installed-- then I got it from an update. Not a big fan of this doo-doo at all. Will try to find and destroy kio andkguiaddons when I get home.

that's what I'm afraid of here is the absence of choice. I've had video bogged down in default MPV that I could open in the better app (imho) VLC. Once I click that box I remove that choice to use another program. I think. Probably overthinking. Back to work🙂

I use gnome noticed lot kde stuffs this last update so guess what i GOT GOOGLE MAPS NOW!
i know I didnt havent it before.

I don't think that Google Maps as an application is actually installed... I believe those just point to the website. In the case of kio at least, it seems to be a search provider, likely for location stuff. It also has providers for other map providers. It wouldn't surprise me if it's the same for kguiaddons, as it also includes desktop files for other providers as well as 'geo handlers.'

EbonJaeger ok, as a proxy marker, for lack of a better phrase, it seems far less sinister than my initial impression. Thanks for the clarity. Budgie, the Solus DE, is not built with, nor needs, any K-packages anyway, is that correct? In other words I can remove that stuff?

kio and kguiaddons are libraries for applications built using the KDE framework, regardless of what desktop environment you're running. You'll need those if you want to use a lot of them.

The only thing here that pertains to me is kwallet which comes with Budgie and cannot be uninstalled without some consequence, correct?

I know KIO is a reference point but Google Maps in my 'open with' just don't seem right. right now I'm just afraid of The Law of Unintended Consequences if I rip KDE stuff out, willy-nilly....
...eventually I will have lager later and come to accept this🙂

kwallet does NOT come with Budgie, if I'm not completely mistaken. But there must be some reason (=app) for you to have those two packages installed. Removing them will of course then remove those apps you installed in the first place.

90% Kde in the K list. I try some apps out but always uninstall. What good is rmo in this case? Unless the deps and rev-deps all have deps🙂 of ghosts already here?

Got my work cut out for me, Staudey , but I will beat Google on my Linux (says everyone that never beats google on their Linux)...

I was the meteor and 3GB of KDE packages were the Stegosaurus'....

I removed about 35 packages carefully, reading eopkg info for each, and utulizing several reboots.
The remaining packages can have a home here.
Each time I rebooted I tried to replicate the Open With Google Maps context menu. I could not.
And I still can not. KIO and kuiaddons, among a lot of others are gone. No more mystery. Please kindly mark this thread SOLVED.

Axios once I got the concept no kde stuff ships with budgie I became brave and tore most kde out a LITTLE at a time. Except I didn't believe what I was told. See the packages I left? Auth and Bus are in the K-names🙂. Didn't touch them. they were scary-sounding.
I had a crapload of kde that I didn't need. I mean, Kdecorations? Kemojis? NO FEAR, Axios 😉!

What a topic came up today, I only use GNOME and I'm actually very comfortable with it. I haven't liked KDE for a long time, but "for color tastes". 🤔, I wonder if it happened in other distributions, in my case I don't have the problem, possibly because I have an isolated GNOME and external packages in Flatpak (Example: Citra).

With four versions of Solus and a unified repo, complete isolation did not seem to me a realistic goal. I enjoyed using a LOT of kde apps and that was my problem: they don't seem to uninstall completely and leave behind a lot of interlocking debris. That was all on my laziness, though, not Plas.
I understand your purist bent, I am that way with a lot of things. Flatpak and the first 3rd party app you need (mscorefonts, chrome, an app from github for instance) wreck that purist goal in a minute. And that's ok, too.

Well, I would never really recommend this, only if it were an emergency, in reality the management of depends must always have a record, I always take captures and make the changes in the terminal to have it in /var/log/eopkg.log.

Although, I don't know what to say, I like the stable and unstable at the same time. 🤣
