WetGeek nope this is not what I said. People just focus on tracking and privacy - which of course is super important - but they don't look further than that.
The scope is broader it is about controlling the access to the web.

Google/Apple almost have the full control so they can unilaterally decide on everything.

For example imagine they make a new codec for the next-gen audio/video or an API for 3D or virtual reality on the web.
Your independent team do an alternative to one of those which is better, more efficient, faster, etc.
And your work is so good that it is proposed as a new standard.

Great... Except that Google / Apple decide they won't implement it in their browser because they want to promote their own solution.
How do you evaluate the chances of your project?

Tip: look at the paste and how Microsoft imposed activeX thanks to its monopoly on the web with Internet Explorer. I never heard anyone saying activeX was a great technology.

So Apple/Google dominate the web browser and they dominate the mobile. Desktop is decreasing slowly while mobile is raising fast.

Personally I find this worrying... or rather SCARING. And people don't seem to bother. Instead of supporting the only alternative even if it is not as good, they criticize it and wonder which fork of the dominant browser they will use... And they believe this is freedom.

Wake up!
