Urlopen error after upgrading.

After upgrading I get

Failed to fetch file "https://mirrors.rit.edu/solus/packages/shannon/........": <urlopen error [Errno -2] Name or service not know> . When trying to install anything using the terminal. I use my phones hotspot to connect to the internet but have to use a proxy to get around the 70kb/s cap they have. I have always been able to install/update/upgrade using the terminal until now. Connecting through the browser still works fine. I have tried my best to figure this one out myself but frankly have no idea what I'm doing. Any help is appreciated.

james8755 I noticed the same thing during an update of my Dell Plasma laptop this morning, then when it was finished and I tried to reboot, I had no internet. I tried to reconnect, but no hosts showed up. Usually there are 12 or 15 in the list, because I'm in a neighborhood where lots of wi-fi is in use.

I also updated my multimedia machine, but I'm afraid to reboot it. Does anyone know what's going on?

EDIT: I know there's no hardware problem here, e.g., a router problem, because I am using my little travel laptop to write this to the forum, and the TV is still connected and streaming without a problem. Unlike the laptop that can no longer connect, the little laptop uses Budgie. The other machines here use Plasma.

Whew! I knew that rebooting does not stop and restart the wi-fi radio, but shutting down and restarting the machine does. It just occurred to me that doing a shutdown and restart rather than a reboot might get my laptop working again.

It did.

When it started up again, it was connected normally. I'm going to go ahead with the rest of these updates, and shut down/restart if rebooting fails for them too.

EDIT: Note that I've never needed to do that before this update. Normally a simple reboot has always worked without any drama.

MORE EDIT: The problem may be DE-specific. I just rebooted the Budgie laptop without a problem. Going to try the multimedia machine now, another Plasma machine.

AND EVEN MORE: The update and reboot worked without a problem on that computer, which is another Plasma machine. So no DE-specific problem, apparently. I'm going to assume this was an example of "shit happens," and not worry about it any further. There must be something about this particular laptop that caused it to require a shut-down instead of a reboot. Never happened before, though.

Connecting to the internet and using the browser all work fine. My issue is connecting to the internet through the terminal. I know it has something to do with using a proxy. When I first started using a proxy copying /usr/share/defaults/eopkg/eopkg.conf to /etc/ and editing the proxy section accordingly, Export https_proxy etc and all was good. That was probably a year ago . Now all of a sudden after upgrading it no longer works.

@james8755 first of all i would double check all your proxy settings are correct, but,

if you are willing to get your hands dirty you can try:

sudo eopkg it git python-urlgrabber
git clone https://github.com/getsolus/package-management
cd package-management
./eopkg-cli fetch package1 package2
git checkout c2d5bd69bbd5646e9308524f37e1b70509aa2665 (<-- roll back to revert to the previous code)
./eopkg-cli fetch package1 package2

Explanation: a bunch of changes were made to eopkg fetching code recently, by cloning package-mangagement and reverting to the state before the changes were made then try with the local eopkg-cli version instead of the system wide eopkg and see if that resolves the issue. The localized eopkg-cli version will still respect the global eopkg settings (i.e. eopkg.conf)

I would like to add that I'm a pipeline welder and am rarely home. This is the reason I mostly have to use my phones hotspot to connect my computer to the internet. Was turned on to computers and linux by my sister before she went to prison. I realized trying to learn this stuff instead of partying and blowing money is a better and more productive way to spend my time. I realize everyone involved has a full time job and life outside of this project and want to say thank you for taking time out of your day to help people like me.

I did

sudo eopkg it git python-urlgrabber
git clone https://github.com/getsolus/package-management
cd package-management

Then got hung up on what to do after that or what you meant by package1 package2 . So i tried

./eopkg-cli fetch python-urlgrabber

After that i tested it by doing sudo eopkg-cli update-repo and it worked.
Im not sure if I did this correctly but it seems to have solved my problem.
