EOPKG updates act broken this morning Sunday Feb 27

This was an unexpected turn of events, to say the least. The update was not the usual orderly and smooth update I've been accustomed to.
There were I think about 34 packages listed. The download format or layout was different from usual, and the packages were not listed in consecutive order, many whizzed by without even being downloaded. Same with the installation process. At the end an error was listed, but update was labelled 'successful'.
Error was System error. Program terminated. [Errno 21] Is a directory: '/usr/share/themes/Zukitwo/gtk-3.0/assets'

I rebooted, tried the update again, with same results. After checking for broken packages I got

I reinstalled the package, but the same thing happened when I checked for broken packages again. Same result.

I am beginning to 'shake in my boots'. Was or is the eopkg update process broken? Why I haven't seen any feedback on the forum this weekend? I always wait a couple days after Friday before updating, just to make sure there is no negative update feedback on the forum. And now this.

What should I do? Is the system compromised? How can I tell? So far things work as normal.

same here, same package. doing asudo eopkg check for more info. will report back.

Also, my gnome image viewer no longer launches or opens but that's a separate matter.

I Update gnome either friday or yesterday without problems. Had some issues with a flatpak yesterday
but it installed and ran fine. But I dont have that theme installed. Hmm strange my format and layout
was normal that I could tell. Dunno wonder if any updates got done?

Axios yes, my eog (eye of gnome default picture viewer) checks healthy so I can't explain the non-launch and spinning wheel...

brent Yes, those steps worked. First removed, then installed again. The --reinstall version did not work.
Now no more broken paqckages. Still feel uneasy about the 'weird', and incomplete looking update. Will keep you updated! Thanks! 😃

WOW there are a second wave of updates I just discovered. I had about 15 Friday and 15 today that I am installing now. EOG is one of the updated packages. @elfprince sorry for tacking my picture viewer problem onto your post. but my zuki packages are now not broken.

happy to report my EOG problems were fixed. just rebooted and opened some jpg/png file finally. elfprince yeah I agree it does feel weird to see the irregularities since they don't occur that often.
Axios yeah something happened long ago (can't remember!) where I swore off using snaps again.

The dashes should be placeholders for the download speed and download time numbers.

EbonJaeger Yes, so was my thinking as well. Just concerned that these new programming things are happening 'live', and updates can get bonked.

elfprince The estimated download time isn't a new thing. I think some of the calculations have been updated to be more accurate though, and for very small packages like this (191 KB) it doesn't update before the download is already over (thus only the placeholder dashes instead of values). So no "programming things" (by which I guess you mean tests/experiments) happening here.

As for your original error: To be quite honest, I don't really know what happened there. I couldn't reproduce that error on my system right now (and didn't see it when I updated the package). Since the Zukitwo theme uses symlinks to the Zukitre files for many of its parts, I can only assume that something went wrong with the delta generation for those symlinks, and this is why a reinstall fixed it (grasping at straws here).

What exactly do you mean by that? Nothing should have changed in that regard. The list of packages to be downloaded (shown at the start) is alphabetical. After that it of course installs them in order of dependency, so not necessarily alphabetical. Of course every package is being downloaded, unless you already have cached it for some reason (e.g. during a reinstall, or after manually installing an older version while the new version is still in your system's cache).

Staudey Thank you for your message. To be honest, I am puzzled too. I've watched updates every single time, I never go away from my pc while the update is taking place. So, I am very familiar with a 'regular' update flow. I am sorry that I could not post a screen shot, because I was in my console mode, ie no mouse. ;/
All I can remember is that the download numbers were out of sequence, and the download stopped half way before the final number (34 or something) was reached. Plus the speed was way too fast, I saw some packages' download status as 0% completed. Right, after that, the installation started and ended, with the final 'success' message, plus the error of of zuki-themes.
Right now, my system (Solus Budgie) is working as usual, no hiccups. Either I was seeing things, or I will see the truth during my next coming update. I will make sure to do that in my terminal, so if anything, I can get a screen shot. 😁

As someone who has coded such things many times (for Windows applications), I've always been amazed at how well the eopkg countdown works. It has almost always agreed 100% with the end of the package download in my experience.

elfprince I have to apologize for providing incorrect information! The placeholder symbols for the estimated download time/speed were indeed changed on Feb 14th (and would've been included in the sync on the 18th). I overlooked that because the date of the patch in the repo was back in December. So you're right, the visuals have indeed slightly changed. Where there were zeroes before, there are now dashes.
I'll also try to get to the bottom of the zuki-themes error, to avoid it happening in the future (btw, if you have yaru-icon-theme installed I might just have stumbled upon a similar issue in Unstable, but I hope it won't affect the next update sync)
