Automatically Connect To VPN On Boot

I'm wanting my VPN to connect automatically on boot, but on KDE Plasma the option to set that is greyed out.

Can this be enabled somehow? I've had a little search around but found no clear answer.

As already hinted at above, you are meant to select the network device -> general configuration tab -> automatically connect to vpn -> select existing vpn configuration.

The appearance of the option on the VPN connection itself is confusing however.

In Budgie Settings I have a tab called Autostart and from there I can choose apps/scripts to run at startup.
Does Plasma have such a thing?

Yes. Among the Plasma settings there is an autostart section, where one can set apps and/or scripts to run at start.
Personally, I haven't used scripts to connect to a VPN, so I can't vouch for this solving this particular issue.
I also haven't figured out how to get an autostart script to run with root permissions, which I suspect may required in this case.

..what if an autostart required sudo? Never thought of that for his vpn. Does a script exist that avoids/eliminates the inevitable password prompt? Or bypasses it?
Or...can OP autostart his vpn and live with the single password prompt everytime the computer starts. He's still not going through the menu, looking for app, then clicking it. So time is still being saved with a single password field. Defeats purpose a little I know. I'm stuck at the privilege part, too.

maybe it's me but it feels right that this option would be deactivated in the vpn settings, because it would effectively nest vpn connection, that is « automatically connect to vpn every time this vpn is connected»... What I would expect would be to activate this option in a non vpn connection, wifi or wired. To activate this option by default on any given (non vpn) connection, you could add a NetworkManager dispatcher.d script

Harvey I finally got this to work, although for me it was still greyed out in the Wired Connection. I was however able to do it by turning on the Wi-Fi connection and select it in there.

Make the changes in starting setting and remove the vpn app from auto start or on Boot.
