As I mentioned in another thread, over the last few days I replaced the SSD in my main laptop with one twice its size, to give me more storage space there. Besides installing Solus Plasma on the laptop, I also wanted to re-create the three Solus VMs I had on the previous system.
So I did just that. At this point, they're just basic machines, with the OS, email (Thunderbird), and browser (Vivaldi) installed and configured for use, including full updates. I use those to double-check any advice I might give to someone using a DE that I don't, and also to make it easy to take a screenshot (on the guest) using Spectacle (on the host).
All the VMs I create use dynamic virtual disk drives, so they start out relatively small on my laptop, but they can later grow larger -- up to a maximum size -- if the VMs are used heavily. I was curious about just how big these newly-created VMs are, so I checked the Virtual Media Manager in the VirtualBox manager. Here's how those three Solus VMs look there:
As you can see, they were all created with a maximum size of 32GiB. But what surprised me was that there was so much LESS storage space needed for the Plasma VM.
As I mentioned, these were all created equal, all with the same email client and the same browser. I would have expected Plasma to be the biggest one at the start, not the smallest. Thus my Plasma surprise.
